I have been watching this series on BYU-tv. Despite the tv station being Mormon owned, I have not noticed any LDS bias.
It is a good basic American history series. The first 26 episodes are viewable online at the link. They have Civil War episodes coming up soon.
And I wouldn't worry any more about the station's ownership than I do when I eat at Chick Fil A, whose owner is a staunch Baptist (not my theological cup of tea), but also a great American who serves a great product.
