One of the issues barely touched on is the penetrations and jonts in a building or space to be protected. Doors, windows, eaves, wiring penetrations, ductwork, pipe, fire protection, sanitary sewer, storm drainage and downspouts, hinges at door frames, knobs and other thru-wall details, and a host of other items play a part in allowing RF into areas to be protected from this issue.

I agree with you.

That is the one area that is stupefying. My opinion is the economical way to protect against E1 is to take an inventory of the most critical devices and then to safely store parts for repair or replacement. I have read where line of site protection with distance can be accomplished without turning an entire house into a Faraday cage. A very competent engineer I know argued that placing a shield in the attic would mitigate most of the line of site E1 damage (based on proximity to the initial burst). I'm still not sure about that.

I just don't think it is economical nor physically possible to retrofit an existing home. E2 is easy because with do that everyday with plug in protection devices. Even the effects of E3 are solvable with a few spare components.

I just not sure I would want to live in a home that has 24 E1 protection. That would require quite a change in lifestyle and be more costly than stocking up with replacement parts.

The only purpose I can see is safety. Depending on the size of the cage you could develop a significant charge and "possible" shock hazard. That being said, all items stored inside the cage need to be electrically isolated from the internal surface. This is in regards to electronics protection and not radio work.

Thanks for your detailed reply, the link, and for adding what I forgot to put in. You're absolutely right about electrical isolation for items inside the cage.

An EMP is a result of a nuclear bomb which has been set off in the upper atmosphere.

True. However, all nuclear bombs give off an EMP burst. An upper atmosphere detonation allows the burst to spread and maximizes the area it can reach, AND (this is the important part), keeps the nuclear bomb from destroying the infrastructure.

The goal of the ruling elite who set up and control all wars is to KILL PEOPLE without DESTROYING THE VALUABLE RESOURCES.

Granted, most of our tests were underground and the ground absorbed most of the EMP pulse, so loss of electrical power on a widescale basis didn't happen. I think if we endure a nuclear weapon explosion over the US, big enough to cause a massive failure of the electric grid, that we will have more to worry about than no electricity. Besides the socialists, commies, and Muslims are taking us over from the inside, so there will be no more wars with nuclear bombs.
