"You just need to build something that knocks a pin into a bullet."

You'll have more success if you drive the pin into the primer.

If the tinkerer, Manny Garrido, was not seriously hurt, going to the hospital was stupid. Talking to the cops was dumber. Now he's going in jail, likely prison, and will have a felony record. Thanks, dad. This is SO wrong on so many levels.

If it were me I would take myself to court and sue for damages after shooting myself and recoup some of that fine that I had to pay.

The government classifies improvised weapons as Type 2 firearms — weapons you can't buy in stores. And improvised weapons are legal, but require extensive background checks, paperwork and hefty fees. Most gun advocates — unless they're collectors or scientists — won't go through the trouble.

Typical disinformation, blurring the line between a firearm, which the idiot built, and an 'improvised weapon' which is something else entirely.

It is perfectly legal to build your own firearm, even an evil black 'assault' semi-auto!

The only caveat is that you can't sell it or give it away. Legally.
