Usain Bolt said he had no respect for Carl Lewis, the man whose Olympic feats he eclipsed with victory in the 200m, saying the Americans recent comments on doping were attention-seeking.
Bolt targeted the former Olympic 100m and 200m champion after becoming the first man to retain the double sprint titles with another scintillating performance in the 200m final.
The Jamaican was referring to recent comments from Lewis, who he said had appeared to question the validity of his achievements.
I want to say that I have no respect for Carl Lewis. It is looking for attention, for an athlete out of the sport to be saying things is really upsetting," said Bolt. "He was talking about doping and for me he was just looking for attention.
Bolt had earlier declared himself the greatest athlete of all time after winning the 200m to retain both short sprints, something Lewis did not achieve in his prime.
Bolt led a Jamaican clean-sweep of the medals, with Yohan Blake collecting his second silver medal of the Games, and former hurdler Warren Weir taking bronze in a personal best of 19.84sec.
Bolts winning time of 19.32sec was the joint fourth-fastest of all time and matched the time clocked by Michael Johnson in Atlanta in 1996. Bolt said he managed to equal it despite having a bad back.
Asked if the Jamaican track team were drug-free, Bolt insisted that they were running clean. He also dismissed comments from Victor Conte, suggesting that 60% of the athletes in London are doping, and criticised Carl Lewis for hinting that his success may not be as it seems.

I saw him on Top Gear a while back. Big Star in a reasonably priced car. He was fast in the car too.

Go Usain! Carl Lewis is a prick who got away with doping in 1988 and was protected by the IOC while Ben Johnson had his medals stripped. 2 weeks ago, Lewis repeatedly criticized Mitt Romney, saying “some people should not be allowed to leave the country.” Meanwhile Bolt showed tremendous respect to the U.S.A. last week when he stopped an interview to face the podium and respect the playing of our anthem during a U.S. female star’s gold moment. LOVE seeing Bolt say “no one remembers (Lewis) anymore”. Carl can go to hell.
Slightly off topic... I don’t know how serious he is about it, but Bolt has at least been joking that he wants a tryout with Manchester United after the Olympics.
Sounds like Lewis is overloading on sour grapes.
Carl Lewis couldn't even sing our national anthem!
That would be very, very interesting. Fantastic speed, but does he have any foot skills? Speed is great, but without foot skills he’d get killed.
Another cool guy is David Rudisha from Kenya who won the 800M yesterday and set the world record. Glad he won. Great story about him on NBC yesterday.
Painful and cringeworthy. In the extreme.
He claims to have football skills, but you know, look at who’s doing the talking.
19.84!? holy crap! my best ever was 22.43 :0
Of course, in high school, I was best at 100m .. 11.68 :/
The scary part about his 19.84 is that he let up at the end. The maddening thing about Bolt is we’ll probably never find out how fast he really is, he’s often sloppy coming out of the block and as soon as he knows a race is won he eases off the throttle. Cleaner off the block and actually going all out all the way he’s probably a 1/4 to 1/2 second quicker than all his times.
I honestly lost interest in the Olympics a decade or so ago.. judges paid.. cheaters let off, countries cheating (China is a perfect example from 4 years ago)..
and, I agree about Bolt.. maybe he is trying to get other (countries) competitors to juice up (training, not boosters)..
I’ve never heard of him before, but he is A-ok with me.. I love his personality and sportsmanship.. He didn’t HAVE to give all he has because he already had what it took.
If it weren’t for his sportsmanship, I would have never even heard of him... I am NOT watching the Olympics.. Heck, I don’t even watch my favorite sport anymore because of all the politics involved :/
BUT, it does remind me of something else (Olympics involved) from a couple of decades ago... a Jamaican team... they made a movie about it (comedy, but was a true story)... And, the point to the movie was, more or less, ANYTHING is possible.
(I think the movie was about bob-sledding)..
Oh.. about his time... I retch at it... I wish I could get close >.< lol
at my age now, I will be lucky to get about 25-30 seconds :/
Michael Johnson suggest that if Bolt worked on his technique he might run close to 19-flat. I don’t know if Usain reacted to that. Didn’t seem to be criticism. More like awe & respect coming from Johnson.
... excuse me, I think I meant to say 19.5...
19.84? i could beat that...wait..not the 100? ahhh
Bolt could have handled this a little better. Not exactly a class act.

I didn’t know until a few days ago about Lewis getting a pass on doping.
And I thought Bolt was just upset at the way Carl sang the National Anthem ;-)
Carl Lewis is a pill. Even his less athletically-talented sister Carol seemed to get more endorsements and TV work than her brother
