The only exemption is for those who aren’t in the Social Security system. Currently that includes Amish and Mennonites and essentially no one else.

What about the small area near Galveston who have been exempt from Social Security from its inception..?

Anyone know.....?

I believe it’s the Galveston or Galveston County public employees that opted to forego SS and instead contribute a portion of their paychecks to a personal retirement investment, similar to some sort of money market fund.

I think this was done around the 1960-1980s. Retirees have been receiving MUCH larger monthly retirement checks than they would have if they had opted to stay with SS... and they are very happy.
