If you weren't already freaked out by clowns, you may be now. Kenneth Kahn, aka Kenny the Clown, a Fisherman's Warf icon and onetime aspiring mayor, is in trouble with the cops once more. But this time, it's not for his alleged Ed Jew antics or for juggling fire on a skateboard. No, this time, Kenny was caught with Steve Jobs' stolen iPad.
Kahn said he didn't know the iPad had belonged to Apple's late co-founder. He thought it was just a gift from a friend, 35-year-old Kariem McFarlin of Alameda, according to media outlets. McFarlin was arrested Aug. 2 for breaking into and looting Jobs' Palo Alto abode.
Rather than search the iPad for Apple's top secrets, Kenny apparently only used it to bolster his shows. In press reports he claims not to have checked out the tablet's contents, and instead just downloaded Henry Mancini's "Pink Panther Theme" and other songs to play while scarring entertaining kids.
Being a clown and all, though, Kenny saw some humor despite the scandal.
"It would be like getting a football from Joe Montana that was stolen out of his house," Kahn said. "If this thing weren't so tragic, it would be comical."
The 46-year-old clown apparently didn't ask questions when his friend McFarlin gave him a 64-GB iPad. McFarlin was arrested after looting Jobs' Palo Alto home, which was under renovation, on July 17. During his 15-hour overnight raid, according to the press, McFarlin allegedly made off with Jobs' wallet, driver's license, $60,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. jewelry (who knew Jobs had such exquisite taste?), and a litany of Apple gadgets, one of which he gave to Kahn.
When Kahn ran for mayor against Gavin Newsom in 2007, his sister Sylvia told the press, "My brother's story is not an interesting one." This certainly changes that.
McFarlin first met Kahn as a pupil on a high school basketball team in Alameda over 10 years ago. As someone who's been in trouble with the law before, Kahn had some sympathetic words for his friend.
"He's a nice guy who made a horrible, horrible decision," Kahn said. "Before the public sees him as this horrible monster, I'd like to hopefully think we can somehow get across that he just made the worst mistake of his life."
McFarlin's stuck in jail on a $500,000 bail. He's scheduled to appear in court on Monday, and faces eight years in prison if convicted.
Now, watch Kenny the Clown do his thing:
Ping
WOW...how did OBozo wind up with Job’s iPad?
WOW...how did OBozo wind up with Jobs’ iPad?
That easily could have been a single ring, bracelet, or other small item(s).
The one on the right is Kenny.
