Johnny Depp To Play Dean Martin In New Biopic?
Star Pulse ^ | August 14t

Singer Dean Martin's daughter has put Johnny Depp at the top of her wish list to portray her father in an upcoming biopic.

Deana Martin's memoir, Memories Are Made of This, is set for a big screen movie adaption, directed by Joe Mantegna, who played the iconic star in 1998 HBO movie The Rat Pack.

The 63 year old, who is also a musician, has already recruited actress Jennifer Love Hewitt to portray her in the film, after running into the actress during a concert in the Big Apple last year, and Deana admits the casting was a dream come true.

She tells the New York Post, "I was performing at (nightclub) Feinstein's last year, talking about the movie, and told the audience that I'd love for Jennifer Love Hewitt to play me. All of a sudden I heard, 'OK, I'll do it.' It was Jennifer. I had no idea she was there."

Nevertheless, Deana admits finding someone to play her dad has been more challenging.

She adds, "It has to be the perfect person who has all the qualities that my dad had. And we haven't found that yet. But I'm sure someone's out there!"

Names like George Clooney and Harry Connick, Jr. have been thrown around, however, Deana admits she would like to see Depp take on the part, joking, "He's got the hairline."

Who’s going to play Jerry Lewis? Tiny Tim is too old. Biden might be OK with makeup.

I think Harry Connick Jr. would be a better choice, but Depp has chops/.

It is unfortunate Depp has allowed his fellow actors to push him leftward (last I heard anyway), but he is very talented and seems to choose his roles well (OK, 80% of the time).

Mantegna was excellent in the “Rat Pack” movie. Way better than Liotta’s Sinatra, horribly miscast.

>>Tiny Tim is too old. <<

But he shares one major attribute with Deano — both are dead: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0864097/

Tell me it’s not true.

I laughed when I saw Leo DiCaprio is playing the Great Gatsby and that’s not even a real person.

Are the actors too young to know what they’re doing, or maybe the casting directors?

Don’t totally count him out. biden has been brain-dead for years and still seems to show up for work from time to time.

Celebrities playing other celebrities. Ain’t that grand? I can’t wait for a movie about Johnny Depp. Who’s gonna play Johnny Depp playing Dean Martin?

Martin and Lewis, a CBS movie in 2002, Jerry Lewis was played by Sean Hayes, who did a good job.

Perhaps the most interesting example of this is Brad Garrett of Everybody Loves Raymond playing Jackie Gleason in a made for TV movie. He actually did quite a good job, despite having physically nothing at all in common with Gleason.

Ninety five percent of today's actors are all punks; light weights.

Neither can I. I haven’t seen enough of the current crop of actors to have an opinion on who could/ should. I don’t think anyone from the 80s is fit for it

Johnny Depp is a fantastic actor. He is a superb talent, regardless of his political views. He is a true “artist”. His talent is indeed an “instrument”.

It would be a waste of his talent to be in this two bit film.

I watched Platoon again the other night, (for the umpteenth time), and was surprised to see that Johnny Depp was in it. I hadn't noticed him in it previously.

Depp is a bit of a chameleon, but he’s so boyish, while Martin, though not at all overweight, looked far more robust.

I agree.. big fan of Depp, but I would pass on seeing him as Deano..

playing Dean Martin would require stature, I would think.

I don’t even understand casting like this..It’s if this casting director would also cast Depp as John Wayne..

read an article a while back about D. Martin’s music being the perfect music to play in the restaraunt and that it instantly puts people in a good mood.
