I want Redistribution... of Government! - Vanity

Posted on 08/20/2012 7:18:36 PM PDT by GraceG

I want more government, local and state.

I want more taxes, paid to local and state governments.

I want more bureaucrats, to work at local and state jobs.

I want more government spending, at city hall and the state capital.

I want more regulations at the local and state level.

I want more power given to the local government and state government.

I am such a progressive/socialist......

Wait there is one condition....

For all the power given to the local and state governments stated above, a proportional amount of power (IF NOT MORE) must be taken away from the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT!

I want the Redistribution, OF GOVERNMENT!

This is what those fools in the media don't understand. The Tea party isn't about throwing away ALL government, the movement is about moving a vast lion's share of that power back down to the local and state level where IT USED TO BE!

The people are better represented at a local level than a federal level especially when it comes to matters that directly affect us as citizens.

So the next time a liberal whines abut you being a Libertarian who wants no government, tell them you want more, at a state and local level and less on a federal level.

We don't want the Redistribution of wealth, we want the Redistribution of Government!

No thanks to what?

Moving power down to the local level so that we can more easily eliminate the excess there?

What a naive posting. Government at ALL levels in insanely too big. Freepers are citizens who cherish Liberty and individual responsibility.

There are many other citizens who wake up each day with a desire to bring misery to those who pay their salaries. Such people are called government workers, or as I like to call them parasites.

Most bureaucrats in government who go out to fine and harass the productive members of our society have an extremely strong sadistic streak. They truly have utter evil in their hearts.

Government at ALL levels need to be drastically reduced.

Our Founders rightfully noted that government at it's best is a necessary evil at it's worse an intolerable one. We are very near the latter.

You are missing the point, the reason government has gotten big, especially at the federal level is due to the centralization OF government in a centralized location known as Washington D.C.

Government would not be allowed to grow so big if it were more local, also the local governments that get to big would be crusted by their own weight... and when they collapse it wouldn’t take a whole country with it.

I agree we need LESS government, one of the issues is the whole Centralization scheme of the Progressives has taken away so much power from local and state that it has become a self growing monster.

Even if we had the same total amount of government (taxes bureaucrats etc..) but it was De-centralized and returned to the states, the governments where would shrink BY DESIGN!

We need to De-Centralize and Redistribute the government to the states and localities. then it will shrink down by default.

You have more say over who is elected to city hall and state rep/senator than you do federal senator/rep and president.

So if we for instance had a balance that looks like this:

Units of Government: (total 150 )

Federal: 100
State: 30
City/County: 20

Federal: 20
State: 60
Local: 70

Granted I would like it like this:
Federal: 20
State: 30
Local: 30

But that is going to be a lot harder to pull off unless the power is not moved back to state and local FIRST then shrank (especially in the still decent areas of the country).

State and local governments already have an excess of money and at least double the regulations. I want the federal government to return to legitimacy under the US Constitution and I want the state and local governments to fear the citizens. I want every corrupt politician to be afraid to shut their eyes at night.

While we’re at it I want every business and corporation that pays to play to go bankrupt so that real businessmen have room to grow.

Agreed 100% but it is easier to replace the morons at the state and local level than it is to deal with someone at a federal level.

This is a case where the mechanics of the government are broken. There was sadly no provision in the constitution that could effectively limit the actual SIZE of government. Nothing like the number of federal workers should not exceed .05% of the state population per state and not more than .05% total US population. We have standards set for how many people a representative represents, but not how many federal workers per citizen that should be.

I would rather deal with a decentralized threat (state/local) to our freedoms than a centralized threat (federal).

But the power has been successfully centralized over the last 100 years especially and now we are all screwed.

BINGO, there is a natural cycle that businesses must go through, they grow then they mature then they eventually die making room for tree, errrr, I mean businesses...

Instead, the feds have meddled with the “natural law” of business and the more they keep propping up the bigger ones that should have died long ago, the bigger the forest fire will be when someone lights the match.

This is how we shrink the government, we divide and conquer!

Divide up the power and then reduce it systematically!

Consider it a bit of a revelation I just had.

I agree with your basic premise, it’s just that I’ve never seen even the county government get cleaned up. People are too busy watching the Olympics or football to see what’s going on.

I think your point is that you want government to be more local rather than federal but your approach - doing a 1-1 trade of federal to local or state - doesn’t reduce the overall size of government and that’s the crux of the problem

Cut the overall size of government by 50% across the board. Local, State and Federal.
