Authorities Looking For Person Who Tied Turtle To Balloons

OCEANSIDE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are looking for suspects in an animal abuse case involving a turtle that was duct-taped to helium balloons.

A resident was outraged by what he saw and videotaped the turtle as it was swinging it arms up in the air.

Soon after, the balloons got caught in some trees and firefighters were able to rescue the reptile.

“I bet it was terrified, dangling back and forth because the wind was pushing it side to side,” said Joel Rabago, who saw the turtle.

“It’s animal abuse. I mean, if you didn’t want the turtle give it away, take it to a pet store. There’s lots of agencies for turtles,” Chanelle Wright said.

Authorities say the person responsible could face animal cruelty charges.

As kids we used to recruit lizards for astronaut duty and launch them in Estes Rockets with the clear capsule. They were a bit dazed upon re-entry but always ran off within a minute of touchdown.

...spoken like a true lib. My next question would be, “do you or have you ever contributed money or time to these ‘turtle agencies’? I’ll bet not oh great protector of all that is turtle.”

I hope to God they DO find these creeps. Nothing FUNNY about this story at all. Cruelty to animals plain and simple.

Turtles aren’t smart enough to be “terrified”, but that’s still a mean thing to do.

... strictly speaking, isn’t a turtle an amphibian rather than a reptile?

Clearly the turtle is an aviator.

“isn’t a turtle an amphibian rather than a reptile?”

No, turtles are reptiles.

Frogs and salamanders are amphibians.

Nope, it wasn't me. All I ever sent up was my second cousin Festus.

Turtles are for soup, second cousins like Festus are for practical jokes.

"Looks like he made history for turtle kind as being the first to fly."

Not exactly true, but perhaps the first to survive the experience...

I can see this going viral and developing into a national anonymous turtle launching craze. Animal abuse? How abusive is turtle soup ?
