Military training— they do simulation of bomb explosions, attacks, etc. Small groups scattered around the country training. I once met a woman who did the food catering for the group near her home town. Very few people in the area knew about it.
God has taken up bowling.
Or anvil firing
Sky quakes are the result of underground seismic activity.
Here’s a blog about lots of other instances.

We often hear artillery and tanks firing at Ft. Hood which is 60 - 70 miles in a straight line and over 100 by highway.
Yeah, I was thinking that Michael Moore must have something to do with it.
So that’s what it was! We heard it here in Reno. The whole building shook, and the slot machines started spitting out coins! I grabbed me some silver dollars before the security thugs showed up and started filling their own pockets.
NASA sent some low flying jets over SoCal. http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2012/08/nasa-jets-flying-over-la-preparing-for-space-shuttle-endeavour-.html
'Nuff said.
Like jet noise ... the sound of freedom!
Except when you orient the M109A6 180º from your target. That happened at Ft. Hood some years ago. 155 mm artillery sent either 6 or 9 rounds into a farmers barnyard area. He got a few new stock tanks close to his house.
Oops!!! Bet he got sent back to remedial artillery school ;-)
IIRC, it was the forward observers who messed up. You don’t call for more “Fire for effect” rounds when no single round hits near the target. Sugar Loaf range has several distant observation points from which impact can be observed. BTW, it was four rounds, not 6 or 9.

Simply military practice that sonically extends according to atmospheric conditions. Always has been the case. The Navy, even when I was in, practiced next to the San Clemente island (can't remember the target island name) all the time for their 3 inch guns. Glad they're still practicing. Guns need practice.
Computer controlled missle guidance systems are tested off Pt. Mugu and Port Hueneme installations. Often times, the conspiratists see their contrails as some ET space thing. Dipshits all.
Those two installations have tested missles as far back as me being a teenager. I remember see their trails up into the sky as a 16 year old. It was a cool sight as they left Vandenberg and left a "hot trail" up into the sunset.
The military does what it needs to do to test new systems and have certain installations and target points. This is old news.
They sure were. :-) Tried to get photos of those -- never had any luck.
