Hurricane Isaac

Posted on 08/26/2012 8:12:04 AM PDT by wolfman23601

NHC has been slow to adjust their forecast, but models in the last 24week hours have been indicating a possible Cat 3 hitting New Orleans. While dems have been rooting for the Tampa landfall to ruin our convention, a NO landfall catastrophe with Jindal running circles around 0, while 0 is playing politics during the aftermath... maybe it is their convention that gets ruined. I am certainly not rooting for a disaster, but it would certainly be ironic.

If this thing comes in at 110 mph and hangs around for 48 hours dumping 20 inches of rain and pushing water into the city , it will be worse.

I am in a suburb or New Orleans. The city shouldn't flood. They have improved the canal walls and pumping systems. The canal walls that failed for Katrina were the result of being under the responsibility of the corrupt

Except for Old Metairie, Jefferson Parish should not have flooded. The evil utterly corrupt Aaron Broussard ordered the pumps shut down and the workers sent across the Lake. I saw him on TV give the order. He was like an insane animal. We stayed in Jefferson throughout Katrina and afterwards. It was bad, but we knew it would not be what the insane Aaron predicted.

The utterly evil, utterly corrupt Broussard with his insane decision resulted in a needless $500M dollars in damage to Jefferson.

The pump workers were pleading to stay but he ordered them to leave. I will never forgive that evil man for the damage he caused to life and property (many of my relatives needlessly had their homes flooded)

The levees aren’t designed for a slow moving cat 3 or anything above cat 3. One of the models has a cat 3/4 moving up the MS river and takes it 30 HOURS to go from landfall at/near Grand Isle to Baton Rouge. I wouldn’t be my life on a government funded/built levee system in such a case.

under the responsibility of the corrupt

I was interrupted.

Forgot to add the corrupt Federal Core of Engineers.

The bottom line is that ALL off the flooding from Katrina was the result of levee, canal protection being under the control of GOVERNMENT.

If decades past, if somehow the responsibility could have been placed under a UL type private agency funded by insurance companies. They would have a vested interest (i.e. profits) in making sure the levees/canal walls were built correctly.

The corruption of the local and fed agencies in relation to the New Orleans protection system is disgusting. The information that came out after Katrina about the incompetence of government is mind-boggling.

As I’ve mentioned a couple of times earlier, if Isaac hits New Orleans, it will be the fourth storm in seven years to hit during the Southern Decadence (gay Mardi Gras) celebration. Southern Decadence was cancelled in 2005 due to Katrina, and again in 2008 due to Hurricane Gustav. In 2011, Tropical Storm Lee scared off many from outside of New Orleans traveling in for the weekend resulting in about 20% hotel cancellations.

How did Mike Siedel of the Weather Channel legally travel to Cuba to cover this event. Isn’t there a federal ban on citizens traveling to that Communist state?

Journalists can legally travel to Cuba on a visa with the Cuban Interest Section in Washington, D.C.

Naming it Isaac in the first place is flirting with bad karma.

The New Orleans debacle was from levee failure.

Yep, and that's what I was talking about.

I'm hoping for the white track.
Regardless, the generator comes out for testing this afternoon.

Many days ago, I made the prediction that Isaac was going to hit New Orleans, and in an inverse Katrina, Obama was going to be lauded for the disaster that does NOT happen, and all this during the Republican National Convention.

Seems the Democrats have their own weather machine.

I was watching the Shoot-Out on cable yesterday and this morning. I didn’t boat over from the 9 in my boat this year. I go too slow in big traffic to go on a rainy day.

Did you see the top pontoon run? Incredible. I think it was 116 with outboard power. Almost caught the air.

After all the rats and their “God sent the GOP a hurricane”, it’s going to hit NOLA. At least there’s a competent Republican in charge of LA. Maybe this time we’ll see true leadership and not obama-esque incompetence.

I think if it hits worst case scenario (cat 3, up MS river) at least one levee breaks. Obama takes full advantage of the chaos in the oil/gas industry and issues at least one EO regarding gas prices. The media covers for him full tilt. When a disaster happens to an incumbent pubbie (GHWB/Andrew) the demonization can’t begin fast enough. Obama will be given carte blanche and anything that doesn’t hold up to the model of maximum benefit to him will be ignored.

Potempkin media at its best. Any damages will be used to eviscerate the ACOE. They will be the scapegoats for any and all discomforts involved.

When I last looked the lowest atmospheric pressure on the coast was Mississippi. These things are pulled to the lowest pressure.

The official track is the average of several different models. Right now, most models show NO getting the likely hit, then there is that other one pulling east pretty hard. One of those sets is wrong, when things get settled, the NHC will be changing the official track substantially. Perhaps the 2pm update will show that.. That's why you never just look at the center of the track
