Just In Case: State of Alaska to Stockpile Mass Amounts of Food and Supplies in Giant Warehouses
SHTF Plan ^ | 8/29/12 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 08/29/2012 4:56:12 PM PDT by Kartographer

Gov. Sean Parnell worries a major earthquake or volcanic eruption could leave the state’s 720,000 residents stranded and cut off from food and supply lines. His answer: Build giant warehouses full of emergency food and supplies, just in case.

For some in the lower 48, it may seem like an extreme step. But Parnell says this is just Alaska.

“We have a different motivation to do this, because help is a long ways away,” said John Madden, Alaska’s emergency management director.

The state plans two food stockpiles in or near Fairbanks and Anchorage, two cities that also have military bases. Construction on the two storage facilities will begin this fall, and the first food deliveries are targeted for December. The goal is to have enough food to feed 40,000 people for up to a week, including three days of ready-to-eat meals and four days of bulk food that can be prepared and cooked for large groups. To put that number into perspective, Alaska’s largest city, Anchorage, has about 295,000 people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and Juneau, its third largest, about 31,000.

OK call me a Tin Foil hat wearer, but there's way to much such stockpiling being done by various government entities, entities of which many regard preppers as eccentric at best and enemies of the government at worse to be happenstance.

I actually think that is appropriate for that area and those conditions. General welfare is a legitimate function of gooberment. It's only a week's worth of food (sorta food in re: MREs).

I hope they rotate the food, unlike the Civil Defense food from the 50's and 60's that just wasted.

Starting years ago, NEAR telescopes were quickly and quietly installed all over the planet.

Then, massive amounts of seed stock were stored away in cold vaults in the Arctic Circle.

The government clerks want hollow point bullets on their ammo.

Stores now primarily use the JUST ON TIME inventory system, so there are no large inventories to depend on should the general public need food. Stores will run out in 3 days. (The next Revolution is 3 Missed Meals Away)

A new underground city (for the ‘chosen’ people) has been built in the United States, stockpiled with food and water.

We are under the THREAT (having been made very recently) of nuclear, biological and chemical warfare in lands we have military stationed.

Nothing to see here, just move along.

Even when the 1960’s survival crackers were fresh they weren't much fit to eat. The canned water was even worse.

I guess the thinking was hungry people will eat anything.

I had an odd thought.

Perhaps the asteroid which is supposed to miss us next year....isn’t really supposed to miss us.

I guess I really can’t fault them.

They had to get something together in a hurry and they did.

Then, people would have eaten it if necessary. They would have complained, but they would eat it.

Today, people would burn down a city before eating it.

People now days don’t know what “sauce” is.

You’re right. They want rid of us so we won’t be around but they will. “They” would be government entities that are “needed” to keep people in line and preppers don’t fit that mold. And, gasp!, preppers have guns and officials really don’t like that. Preppers tend to think for themselves and that is also not popular with officials.

Where there just HAPPEN to be military bases...

I got a $10 bill that says the stockpiles are not for the masses.

I remember the cans of water and the survival food packs we bought in the large square tin cans for our home fallout shelter. We also did weekend shelter drills at the local fallout shelters.

Whittier, Alaska is an unusual place with the large facility built there during the Cold War. The Hodge Building and the Buckner Building. They are both so out of place and unexpected. The area is an ice free port and usually covered by clouds that would have hid it from the prying eyes of Soviet aircraft. I’ve found very little information about what was planned for the base. Construction of the buildings was started in 1948 through 1953.

If the gov knew of one that was, they would never tell until it was too late to do anything for the masses.

And lets face it, the whole detection system is less than perfect. In the early nineties, an ELE asteroid came close to the earth. Problem was, no one saw it until it was going away...

The Hodge building was converted to apartments and condos (this is the one billing in town where everyone lives) it is now “Begich Tower”! The Buckner building was abandoned after the 64 quake and today is an a spooky concrete shell.

I live in Alaska and especially during the winter the state is vulnerable to having a fresh food supply line disconnected.

Most of us in rual Alaska normally stockpile in the summer for the long winter. Soon when the Permanent Fund checks are doled out the smart ones swoop down on Costco and nuy in bulk, my wife works at a food warehouse just so she has an inside track on whats up and she gets dented but salvageable items every day, and my self when our local Walmart for the first time ever started to carry the one gallon cans of the Augason Farms dehydrated foods I bought about 80 cans. And thats not all, I have extra water though we have a well and a manual pump.

Alaska has told Obama to go pound sand on many different issues and its probably conceivable that the elected officials might consider doing something ahead of time just in case Obama decided to punish states that defy his pogroms, if there was any tin foil hat to wear I would wear that one.

Bottom line is this, Alaskans know how to survive and have an inner feeling on what to do if they get a gut feeling something is going to happen.
