Bus driver drops off girl, 4, at homeless shelter after her first day of school

A four-year-old girl was dropped off at a homeless shelter miles from her home by a bus driver on her first day at preschool.

LadyOurlove McInnis was left stranded at Mary's Place in Minneapolis, Minnesota after her address tag came detached from her backpack and the driver failed to check where to leave her.

The girl's mother, LadyAshley Myers, called a school district office to ask why her daughter had not been dropped off on Wednesday - and an official said she did not know where the youngster was.

When a staff member at the homeless shelter, which is the last stop on the bus route, called the district office to report the extra child, officials contacted Myers.

'They told me that they wanted to put her in a taxi cab and send her home,' Myers told KARE11.com. 'I told her, "You're not going to put my four-year-old in a taxi cab!"'

Instead, she went to collect the child from officials and complained that, even though her daughter was screaming out for her mother, they did not initially hand her over.

Myers, who has called for the driver's termination, told the station that while her daughter enjoyed her first day at Bryn Mawr Elementary, she is still traumatised by the incident.

For public schools, the child has to be 5 before a certain date. In Colorado, it is October 1.

More absurd names, but that’s their families’ business. Now, back to a bus driver dropping off a four-year old—what difference does it make what her name is?

Depends on the state or school district as they have a cutoff date usually mid October to turn 5 after that they have to wait til next school year to enroll.

Well, in England they name their houses!

Ambleside, Blencathra, Eskdale, Rydal, Tarn Hows, Windermere, Larmona, Tresco and Kynance.

My husband’s grandmother was named Providenza. I always thought that was a great name.

Honor is a great name (but you’ve got to have the right surname to go with it), Hope, Faith, Charity, and one of my faves Prudence.

I grew up near a 300 year old cemetery and almost all the female names were a virtue.

Everywhere I lived, preschool comes the year BEFORE kindergarten. Kindergarten is now considered part of school, that is why the term K-12 is used.

“I can’t fault the officials for verifying that she was the real mother (assuming that was the reason for the delay). A bizarre event like this warrants extra caution.”

On the other hand the shelter was going to launch her unaccompanied in a taxi cab??? Perhaps that was the school. Crazy story. Missing my four year old though, I would have been freaking out! What a clown parade.
