Well, have you read any of Joel Rosenberg’s books?

“The Last Jihad” was un-put-downable. And I don’t even really like books like that. You have to put up with some overt Christian advocacy, but it’s only overt and not dreadful.

And every dog kind of gets his day, the characters are fully developed, even the bad ones.

I think he’s very good and you should try him.

I love Michael Connelly’s books. Good plots with good writing. It’s important, and fun, to read them in order.

I’m currently reading Craig Johnson’s Longmire mysteries and enjoying them, again, in order.

Take a look at Ben Coes. Definitely our own FReeper Matt Bracken if you haven’t read his trilogy yet. Stephen Coonts.

Try Ben Coes. He has 3 books out with the character Dewey Andreas. I have read the first two and am looking (at the library) for the third. Great reading.

I also love Lee Child’s books, featuring Jack Reacher. A movie has been made of one of the Jack Reacher stories, coming out soon. Jack Reacher is a super tough guy, 6ft.4in. It’s a crying shame they got 5’7” Tom Cruise to play the part.

I also thoroughly enjoyed Barry Eisler’s series of books on the character John Rain.

I just read an interesting book called “77 days in September” by Ray Gorham. Its about an EMP type attack on the USA. Not bad for a first novel by an Independent author.

I love the spy/mystery/political thrillers also and maybe my favorite is Nelson DeMille. When one of his new books comes out I’m gone until I’m done with it. Loved Upcountry way more than I thought I would.

Also an extraordinary book - absolutely impossible to put down - was Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. A true story of an impossible to imagine life - if someone had put Louie Zamperini’s life into fiction no one would believe it. Many interesting real stories on WWII and so beautifully written....mesmerizing. Believe I heard Imus talking about the amazing Zamperini not long ago - he is still alive.

Another vote for Michael Connelly. And add Robert Crais. Just picked up a Lee Child novel - so far so good.

If you have not read any of the Robert B. Parker “Spencer” novels, add that to your list.

I assume you have read David Baldacci’s books? Another pair of writers I like are Jason Elam, who collaborates with Steve Yohn. They haven't written too many books, but I've enjoyed the ones they have. Another one I really enjoyed (even bought one for our dogs’ trainer) is “Sergeant Rex” by Mike Dowling. That was one I couldn't put down. Sgt. Dowling and his military working dog Rex were part of the first Marine Corps military K9 teams sent to the front lines of combat since Vietnam.

I've been reading all the old le Carre books. There is no one like him. Some of the older ones, like A Small Town in Germany, are excellent. Just finished his second one, the one that came out right before he had his big breakout book The Spy Who Came In from the Cold, and it is a superb whodunnit (although Smiley is in it). Shows his versatility, and it's about Eton, for the Anglophiles among us.

There's a new Clancy coming out soon. Those continue to be rewarding.

Dean Koontz. An obvious Conservative. Start with “The Husband.” You won’t put it down. You’ll read ‘til 3:00 a.m. to finish it.

If you ever were interested in mord highminded fare there’s always Joseph Conrad, who’s one of if not the originators. Try “The Secret Agent” or “Under Western Eyes.” One of them has a plot to disrupt British culture by blowing up the Royal Observatory in Greenwich to kill Greenwich Mean Time.

Thanks for the thread. I too, am looking for non-liberal, leftwing crap books. The more conservative and patriotic, the better.
