This S&W .38 Airweight fits easily into a pocket, has no hammer or safety... but carries only 5 rounds. It is my piece of choice for CC because it is so comfortable. It kicks like a mule as one might expect with such a small revolver but I kind of like that.

Wenn ich Kultur höre ... entsichere ich meinen Browning!

My platoon sergeant called the 1911 the best pillow in the world. It had shock value. You blew the head off a guy and his buddy would see that and go into shock.

Seriously, though, I have no dog in the Glock-Browning fight, I'll take Mr. Yeager's word for it.

Here's one I'm partial to. Not just because it's a beautifully made tool but because it makes me a better shot. I like it enough to even carry it some but it's heavy. I have to think if I pull it on a goblin, at least if there's time, he's going to wonder if he really wants what's coming next. And what's coming next is a 230 gr Gold Dot JHP.

Yeah those NYC police who needed to empty their nice 9mm glocks into the empire state building shooter, and in the process injured 9 civilians...are sure glad they had their 17 round mags in their plastic guns to make sure the perp was dead...and like I said 9 civilians were injured.

with 7-8 .45ACP shots from my 1911A1 Remington Rand, bone stock made in 1943....would not be needed...if you AIM...one shot is needed and as the average firefight in a defense situation is just a few seconds long...one is not outgunned if he carries the cadillac of handguns...the 1911. Pray and Spray is a disease not a solution.

How about this then:

The FN PS-90, it has a 50 rd magazine, interesting holographic ring-sight, and is an all-around fun gun.
I'd definitely want one of them instead of an 1911 in the case of a mob / zombie-invasion.

Have both, love 'em both. But then my 9mm is an H&K, and well worth the price! ;-)

Taking the boys out to Ottawa, IL today to practice with their new S&W AR-15. Shame we have to drive 90 minutes to the only place they can shoot. None of the rifle ranges up here allow anyone under 18, even with an FOID card. Go figure.

Preface: I have nine 1911s of different flavors(original 1911, 1911A1 Government Colt 1943 to a Colt Defender)and five Glocks (17 ,19 , 21, 23 and 26).

Despite the YouTube author’s complaints about the grip safety (which he curiously says wasn’t intended in Browning’s original design and which I find hard to believe), I find it and the slide safety a value add.

I read a lot of times about NYC and other Urban city cops spraying full mags into wherever (most recent is 16 shots fired with 9 hitting bystanders)....my guess is that they carried Glocks.

Lastly, I go to Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna GA a lot. They have two or three FULL cases of used Police Glocks for sale - why is that if they’re so valued? So the police can get a Gen 4 with a new case and scope rail?

The H&K USP9. I have the high-capacity clips for mine. Excellent handgun for self-defense. Paid $760 for mine almost 20 years ago now, saw it at MegaSports in Plainfield, IL a few weeks back for just over $1,100. As much as I like my USP9, no way I'd pay that price for it.

Will say this though: My H&K USP9 has NEVER jammed or misfired, and I've run some pretty crappy ammo through it.

yeah...and probably dropped the 1911 in the process...

Dad was NYPD He retired in ‘68 Once a year he went to the range on Rodman’s Neck and put a box or so of shells through his Model 10(nice soft .38 special bullets that did not ricochet). Had he not been just out of the Marines when he joined the force(1946), I am sure he would have been barely trained too

A friend of my sons joined NYPD around 10 years ago. And he came over to me to ask how to make various types of weapons safe as they never taught him anything other than how to fire the plastic gun he was issued. And barely knew anything about that

Ok, just went back and watched the video. My Springfield TRP is not a run of the mill 1911. And while it’s not a Wilson Combat or a Les Baer critical components of it ARE hand fitted. I have 400 rounds through the TRP right now and have had ZERO malfunctions. And Glocks do fail, ask the guys who bought early Gen4 Glocks. They had probably Glocks highest ever failure rate. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not knocking Glocks. My normal CCW is a Gen4 G23 that has somewhere around 1,000 rounds through it and has never malfunctioned. In fact, I bought it and put 200 rounds downrange before I started carrying it just because of the reported Gen4 problems. Truth is the two stage does make a difference, especially in .40, and after shooting the G23 I went out and bought a Gen4 G22 for IDPA. The G22 has about 500 rounds through it with zero problems. I’ll agree if you’re going to carry a 1911 you need to make damn sure it’s reliable and you can reliably hit your target with it since you don’t have 18 rounds to get it done. Mine is and I can.

I ask because I have a S&W Governor. In their manual, they caution owners of revolvers using Ti, Sc, or PD flavors to run an ammo check which involves loading 6 rounds of an ammo and shooting 5 - checking the 6th round for projectile/case separation.

I did this with some Winchester Super X 45 Colt LRN (X45CP2) and I’ll be damned if the last cartridge hadn’t separated almost 3/32”.

I asked Hornady about his and they told me the best ammo for my Sc framed Governor would be the 185 GR FTX (#92790)....

I have some Winchester PDX1 Defender 45 Colt 225 GR (S45CPDB)which I thought about using and tried to contact Winchester about it but their site is so damned convoluted, I couldn’t find a place to ask...I’ll have to try the S&W test with it I guess..
