Stunning Edwardian wedding dress for sale again - 104 years after its last wearer..
UK Daily Mail ^ | September 2, 2012 | Staff

A stunning Edwardian wedding dress is about to be auctioned after being kept in pristine condition by the bride's family for more than a century.

But while it may have survived being bombed twice by the Luftwaffe and 104 years in storage unscathed, it appears the changing shape of modern women could mean the magnificent wedding dress is never again worn down the aisle.

The delicate Brussels lace was worn by petite Ethel Dalziel when she married Ronald Cooper in Glasgow, and is smaller than today's UK size 4.

I used to catch that show now and then. The majority of the brides wanted a “sexy” dress. Since when is standing at a church altar taking vows before God an occasion for “sexy?”

Thanks for posting this. It is very rare that a dress this old survives intact, let alone one with so much lace. I hope it will become part of an exhibit somewhere, and isn’t hidden away in a dresser drawer again.

As opposed to going to Walmart, where you might just meet Mr. Wonderful!

When I go out in shorts that cover my rear and an ordinary t-shirt, it's like wearing a burka. Practically every other female under 50 is "backsides and bosoms on display."

Tell me about it! Everything is spilling out and on display, and most of it isn’t fit to be seen. Girls who weigh 250 dress the same as the skinny ones, and they seem completely unselfconscious and unaware.

Not long ago at Target, I walked past an employee who was squatting down stocking a shelf. She was wearing very low-cut pants, and her bare rear end was just sticking out, almost completely uncovered. I found a manager and told him I really didn’t want to be visually assaulted by someone’s butt while shopping.

18” waist! Size one slippers! Man, that woman was tiny.

People in general were smaller then. The Allies winning WWII did wonders for diet and nutrition world-wide.

My daughter-in-law would be too small for it. She wears a 00.

I don't understand that, myself. Maybe they believe that showing skin is sexy, regardless of anything else, or maybe they simply want to be comfortable. (It is nice, on a hot day, to have one's shoulders uncovered, although I never leave the house like that!) But comfort wouldn't explain why they're still dressed that way when it's 38 and sleeting ...

When my wife was alive, we took the boat to Victoria. There was a museum there that had one of the coats worn by one of the Edwards.

It was stunning. The detail in the threads was amazing. It was hard for me to believe that one person could learn enough to produce it in a lifetime, much less actually have the tools and materials and time to do it.

I don’t know. but they look like about a 7 or 8. She’s not anorectic, just very small. Petite, about 5’1”, very slim. And, believe it or not, she’s a body builder. :o) Go figger...

Just wondered. Anoreth was a size 2 in clothes, before she went in the CG and started doing heavy lifting, but a size 8-1/2 in shoes, and both the younger girls have size 10 feet already. (Elen’s may have stopped growing at last.)
