Bogie & Bacall film festival tonight on TCM
TCM ^ | 5Sept12

Posted on 09/05/2012 6:19:40 PM PDT by ReformationFan

For those interested and wanting to watch something more tolerable than the Communist(oops!) "Democratic" National Convention, Turner Classic Movies is presently airing all 4 Humphrey Bogart/Lauren Bacall films tonight.

TOPICS: Music/Entertainment; TV/Movies
KEYWORDS: alternativetodnc; bacall; bogart; unconventional
It's definitely a more appealing alternative.

Wish they had this on a night I didn’t have to get up the next day for work. I LOVE TCM but once I watch one movie, I’m up until 1AM watching more. LOVE Bogie and Bacall and believe I’ve seen everyone of their movies with To Have and Have Not being my favorite.

Bogie was great, but I always thought that if Bacall worked with him because they were”friends” mush like Sandra Locke was to eastwood.

Bogie was a big-time Lefty.

So was Spencer Tracy ,”especially” Spencer Tracy and Katherine Hepburn.

If you watch Tracy’s films it stands out like a sore thumb.

I’ll still rather watch his work than Maobama’s.

The Big Sleep, film noir Phillip Marlowe mystery. Book written by the great Raymond Chandler, but screeenplay co-written by William Faulkner. Can it get any better?

Chandler was left out of the screenplay team. He hated Hollywood.

I’m kinda embarrassed to say this but I only watched CASABLANCA...a year ago. Only at the prodding of my GF. I liked Bogie.

But my Gf got mad when I told her Ilsa is the epitome of women, using men and making their lives a living hell.

Have you seen “State of the Union”? That’s the Tracy/Hepburn movie where they play a Republican couple. Tracy’s character runs for the GOP presidential nomination.

I rather enjoy most of it, except for his Wendell “we need a United States of the World” Wilkie diatribe.

I’m sure Chandler would hate it even more today.

You are so right.

Faulkner disliked So. Calif too. But they paid big money for these writers (and probably the use of their names).

Chandler did help on some screenplays — there was a bit of a drinking problem going on — so they didn’t give the entire job to him. There is a scene in Double Indemnity between Stanwyck and ?? where they are flirting and it is great — no fantastic. You know — that fast and back & forth that is pure Chandler.

????
I renenbered the ? actor in Double Indemnity. Fred MacMurray — but Edward G. Robinson is reallllly good.

Worth checking out — you’ll laugh at Stanwyck’s pointy breasts (the style then) pretty funny.

I only like Key Largo when it's raining out (LOL!), and I like the girl who played Bacall's sister in The Big Sleep. Still, great movies - but no need to watch TCM... I have them on DVD!
