Word...Best compromise available.
I also like that the ammo is less expensive. I can practice more, making it more likely that I would hit a critical area if ever the need arose.
The kick in your hand when firing is about what smacks into your target. Now the pain and destruction it causes is a different matter. But knockdown power isn’t really what takes a person down. Pain, blood loss, losing consciousness, inability to move properly, that is what does it.
That doesn’t sound right. You can really wind up and wallop someone and knock them down with a bat.
I was actually sorta upset that I lived through it. I had done the hard part. And come to peace, on the side of the mountain, during the blizzard, alone, with just me and Jesus.
Slip fall from a 5 foot drop, onto a pointy sorta rock, left side. Don't do that.

From your own article.
“The potential force transmitted from a bat to the tibia at the time of collision is 8,000 lb, three times that of the bullet 626 lb.”
8000/626=3 (hmmmmm?)
Think of a bat as about a 20,000 grain bullet traveling close to 300 fps. 1/2 mass x velocity squared.
NO pistol bullet comes remotely close to a Louisville slugger signature edition.
Anyone expecting a 45 or any pistol bullet to “knock down” anyone is in for a sad wake up call. Pain, fear, surprise and CNS damage may cause someone to go down immediately. But “knockdown” as in raw knockdown power is pure fiction. Its pure Hollywood.
I’m lucky I am pretty ambidextrous when it comes to firearms.
“The kick in your hand when firing is about what smacks into your target”
Precisely. And that 45 acp recoil is orders of magnitude less that a baseball bat full-on to the chest. The bat just doesnt penetrate.
People have been conditioned by decades of hit movies featuring the cop shot and falling unconscious. Wr all think he’s dead. Then SURPRISE, our hero wakes up and shows he was wearing a vest!!
You tube is full of guys shooting theirself in the chest with a 45 to demo a vest.
The impact without penetration is minor.
Show me, hero. Using yourself as a demo.
I've suffered blunt trauma, and the surgeon said I looked like a gut-shot deer inside.
Your math is suspect. Baseball bat, .22, or .45 to the chest (with a flak jacket, which hasn't been established) is going to leave you off your game. Without a flak jacket, is likely to leave you dead.

34 minutes long....not gonna bother
MARK
Bullet placement is everything. Optic cranial zone.
“Less recoil, more bullet capacity gives an edge to the trained shooter using 9mm.”
This comes into play if the bad guy is armored like the North Hollywood bank robbers and a headshot is required.
Another advantage of the 9mm that a lot of folks miss is that the .45 loses a LOT of critical velocity when used in very short barreled concealment handguns. The lighter/faster hollowpoints tend to expand more reliably in those applications.
Read “Incident in Miami” by Masaad Ayoob.
They also were haveing trouble stopping them with the 30-40 Krag. Drugged up people are just plain tough to stop.
It was the 45 long colt cailber used in the Philippines
Dosen’t mean the 45acp was that much better.
I agree that no bullet knocks a man down by energy, any more than it does a deer. A deer goes down based on what part the bullet hits.

Ayoob notes that Platt was shot in the Pulmonary Artery as he exited the vehicle with a 9 mm. He went on to kill a number of folks after receiving this wound. Ayoob felt that had that round been a .45 the fight would have been over right there. ‘Nuff said.
There is a thing called “Momentum”. How fast is the energy of the bullet transferred to the target. I shot a doe with my 12 gauge broadside in the engine room with a 3 inch 00 mag. a few years back from less than ten feet. She just stopped midstride and fell down. I suspect that the same impact WITHOUT penetration to spread the impact out over time, such as if she had been wearing armor, would probably have knocked her off her feet.
I carry a PPK also, got it loaded with Hornady Critical Defense ammo. It was built to pass the FBI shooting specs, and will handle pretty much any situation thrown at ya!
Not that I would question your veracity, but I’d like to hear more about the Jumbo that you mention. I have a hard enough time dispatching ground squirrels with shorts.
