Actors Who Served: Christopher Lee

Christopher Lee is known for playing villains in movies like "The Lord of the Rings," "Revenge of the Sith" and "The Wicker Man."

Before he was the villain, he was a real-life hero with the Royal Air Force during World War II.

Sir Christopher Frank Caradini Lee, CBE, CStJ was born on May 27, 1922. His mother was a well-known Edwardian beauty and his father, Geoffrey Trollope Lee, was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the 60th King’s Royal Rifle Corps.

Lee volunteered in 1939 to fight for the Finnish forces during the Winter War against the Soviet Union. He was, however, issued winter gear and was posted on guard duty but was kept at a safe distance from the Russians.

According to Lee’s autobiography, he and his fellow Brits were only in Finland for two weeks and never saw the Russian forces. In 1941, Lee enlisted with the Royal Air Force to serve in World War II. After eye problems forced Lee to drop out of training in South Africa, he ended up in North Africa as a Cipher Officer. He spent the remainder of the war working in intelligence, including his work as an Intelligence Officer with the Long Range Desert Group.

Don’t forget he was “The Man With The Golden Gun” who battled James Bond, too.

Neat story about his serving in Finland against the Soviets.
Anti-Soviet and anti-Nazi. Definitely both pluses.

When setting up the scene for Saurman’s Death by being stabbed in the back by Wormtounge, the Peter Jackson tried to tell him what noises to make when he got stabbed.

Lee told him that he new quite well what sounds a man makes when he gets stabbed in the back. No one questioned him beyond that.

This thread or the article isn’t about Jimmy Stewart.

It’s about a GREAT living actor, Christopher Lee.

A living legend.

Try reading the article before posting next time.

No, he’s alive. The other night, we saw him in an early 60s episode of “The Alfred Hitchcock Hour”, so I got curious and looked up his Wikipedia page. He is a conservative, he’s 90 years old, and he sings and records HEAVY METAL albums, LOL! Wow.

I have a book about Sherlock Holmes, sort of a Sherlock Encyclopedia.

I noticed Christopher Lee had written a nice introduction, he clearly knew a lot about Sherlock.

Big Hollywood runs occasional articles about performers who served in the military.

I’m almost sure they’ve featured General Stewart already; today’s profile is about Sir Christopher.

Actually, he played Sir Henry in The Hound of the Baskervilles.

It was his frequent movie partner, Peter Cushing, that portrayed the famous sleuth.

Good to know about Christopher Lee’s war record & that he is still with us.

IMO he was the best of the Draculas. An interviewer asked him about his Dracula teeth & Lee opened his mouth; his natural teeth were long as piano keys & makeup only had to add the long canines.

“The Wicker Man” was chilling. I have it on DVD. I think I will watch it again today, before Denny Hamlin wins Richmond!
