The strike going on in Chicago is serious: 350,000 students are locked out and we brought you the news in a post from this morning.
We'll get back to real news in a little. First, here's a bit of levity:
There is a picture from the picket lines on Monday that had Daniel Strauss, who tweeted it, saying, "Civility has disappeared in Chicago Teachers Union protests."
The sign was written in all caps: "RAHM EMANUEL LIKES NICKELBACK."
Nickelback, if you're not of that persuasion, is a popular Canadian rock band, which is not entirely unfamiliar with this kind of controversy. Back in 2011, Detroit Lions fans actually started a petition to have the band removed from a half-time show.
But, alas, this protest sign and pop culture slur would be rated "false" if checked out by Politifact. The mayor's spokesperson responded with one word when the Chicago Redeye asked if Emanuel liked Nickelback: "No."
It’s the Chicago Way.
A local radio station has “No Nickelback Friday”.
Those Chicago teachers jobs are really great paying - 76 grand a year and they were on 5.5 hours a day now 7. It’s really wonderful that Baraq created so much wealth there to be able to pay these marvelous public servants.
CTU President: As strike approaches 3rd day, ‘We are still miles apart’
The teacher evaluation issue was a main topic of Tuesdays talks, she said.
The teacher recall policy, another key sticking point to a deal, has not been tackled Tuesday, she said.
Main sticking points include evaluations and the rehiring of laid-off teachers.
I don’t mind them but I prefer 3 Doors Down. Very patriotic guys.
I could give two sh1ts about what Rahm Emhomosexual likes or doesn’t like.
The Chicago teachers are so talented and hard working that a fantastic 3 out of 100 students from the Chicago system graduates from a 4 year college. Those are the kind of results that could only a true Obama plan could achieve.
Chicago sinks lower and lower. Capone liked opera.
Used in that context, I thought Nickleback was some new sodomite practice.
Bad taste knows no political boundaries, unfortunately.
Rahm prefers Bareback to Nickelbag. Sometimes is guilty of Teabagging.
It went on for just over 10 minutes, THOUSANDS of these vermin teachers chanting it LOUDLY.
Frankly, I find alot of humor in the teachers unions attacking their taskmasters in the Democrat Party. As much as it inconveniences the crap outta me getting out of my building to head home through that mass (and I mean MASS, some of these women are HUGE) of humanity, I hope this strike goes on for MONTHS.
The longer this crap goes on, the better. Finally every-day taxpayers will see exactly WHY Unions and Government employee unions are bad.
Keep protestin' gals!
Nickelback is so non-spectacular that most people can’t name one band member or any of their songs.
Your mom goes to college.
Yeah but did Capone ever wear a tutu?
I like Nickleback.
I think he’s kinda partial to “Brokeback”
He floated down a river on a raft with a black guy.
I liked 2112 and Working man were good too.
I like Blues too and this is about as good as it gets.
Stevie Ray Vaughan & Jimmie Vaughan - Double Guitar
Big SRV fan here. The best guitarist ever in my opinion.
If he did I’ll bet nobody laughed!
My musical tastes are pretty wide ranging.
Procol Harum, SRV, Rush, Megadeth, Bob Dylan....
I understand formula rock. But at least try to vary the formula.
As is mine. One year I saw Hank Williams Jr. at Irvine Meadows Amphitheater. One month later I saw Metallica at the same venue. I thoroughly enjoyed both.
I stood outside of 3 First National Plaza today while these parasites marched by. I had a few things of my own to shout.
“When the Taleban uses children as hostages we call them terrorists. What does that make you?”
That turned a few heads.
After that came: “If one single CPS student in Englewood catches a bullet today that blood is in your hands!”
Their little drummer boy slowed down at that point.
“Pick it up drum monkey! Maybe if you beat that thing loud enough you can drown out your conscience!”.
By the time I was done there we half a dozen people shouting similar stuff. And the union goon who was filming it all looked like she’d been hit with a shovel.
What you were yelling back at the idiot protestors was positively brilliant IMO. I'm at Clark and Jackson in the old Continental bank building, just down the street from you.
