The city of Pierre is being invaded by skunks.

I crawled under a lot of porches to get 'em out and release 'em somewhere else. Raised up a lot of orphaned little ones.
Got sprayed a lot of times, couple of times in the face. There isn't anything like it.
I like skunks. Especially little ones. They're cute as hell.
But skunks don't belong in a city. And if they're rabid, that's a real dangerous problem. I sympathize with the folks in Pierre.
But if they're hot and dry, I sympathize with the skunks, too.
Just sayin'. :)

They should see what Charlotte did when progressive skunks invaded their city last week.

But that's interesting.... I got real good at picking up a skunk so as to not get sprayed. If you can grab 'em by the base of the tail, haul 'em up in the air and drop 'em gently over the other arm held horizontal (they grab it), and tuck the tail under them -- they won't (or can't) spray with their tail tucked under 'em.
The whole maneuver has to take no longer than about a second, or else they figure out what's going on and rebel.
You can carry them that way (over the arm, tucked) pretty easily. And when you ease them back down to the ground, the rule is: "Let go and get away!" because they'll typically run a short distance, then turn, and if you're too close, they'll spray. But mostly they'll just run away.
I wouldn't pick up a porkypine if my life depended on it. A snapper, maybe, if I could get around behind it and grab the shell properly. But I prefer a long-handle spade and lift 'em up.

I know the cure! Large hunting birds have no sense of smell and consider skunks delicious. They should bring in falcons, eagles, hawks, several varieties of owls, etc.
Of course, afterwards, it would be a good idea to have a bird bath.
Gotta love a State Capital with a population of only 15,000.
Also like the photo of him all besmeared with mud but his hat is tidy. That's a hoot.
Put a fresh black top on the roads.
Skunks love to lie on the road ways that have been absorbing heat all day and are slowly radiating heat at night. Give them a warm roadway to lie on, they get run over constantly at night, and all the owls and other predators also gather for pickings.
Oh, RABIES!

that was just the democrat convention....invades a town, stinks and carries diseases including rabies...
