It's Romney, 16-4 (Vanity)
Me

Posted on 09/12/2012 7:51:35 PM PDT by MacMattico

Four years ago this week, my daughter's 5th grade class took a poll and Obama led McCain in the Presidential race 14- 7. I knew this wasn't a good sign for McCain as even here in upstate NY the annual 5th grade class poll is as accurate as they come. They had picked the winner with almost 100% accuracy since FDR, when this highly scientific poll began (ha ha). They got in wrong with JFK, but my dad always claimed no, they got it right, just to many dead people were allowed to vote in Illinois.

Fast forward to yesterday. Daughter #2 is now a 5th grader in the same school district 5 generations of my family have attended, maybe more. I'm told school wide, the results were basically the same as my daughters class and Romney took the Poll 16-4 in her class. She told me her teacher acted upset and said "Why would so many of you choose Romney?"

Daughter #2 is not shy, was born and adopted from China, and pays attention. She said "I raised my hand and said my parents and I are sick of all these new taxes, spending and we don't like Obamacare. Barack Obama doesn't know what he's doing." My daughter said the teacher got mad, and said that Obama wasn't going to raise her taxes. My daughter said "Of course not, I don't have a job. But I saw my father's pay check and they take a lot of money out of it for no good reason. When I ask for a pack of gum my mom has to pay for it or I do. How can Obama keep giving away money without us having to pay it back?" and then also said "I was born in China, you all owe me, just kidding I'm an American!" The teacher, not happy, told her it was some one elses turn to talk. And then cut off the whole conversation when all the kids were talking to each other about taxes, and even if some didn't know what they were, they knew their parents didn't like them.

So, I guess it's going to be President Romney! Interesting how the teacher cut off the conversation quickly when it turned out the kids liked Romney. Even stopped Social Studies early. Daughter's grades should be interesting, she's always loved Social Sudies and Science. I also think she was chosen to speak first because she is Asian, therefore a minority. Must be for Obama. The only thing I told her was next time refer to him as President Obama. Respect the office, however difficult it may be.

If everything in the class was normal the teacher probably voted 4 times.

Sounds like you’ve got an astute kiddo, well raised.

And yes, school polls have been strikingly accurate for decades.

Fingers crossed!

I was born in China, you all owe me, just kidding I'm an American!

With that sense of humor to complement those smarts, she will go far.

Smart little girl you have there! This is proof that kids do listen to the things their parents talk about.

My son was in the 3rd grade last year. One day his class was sitting on the floor in a circle, and the teacher was leading a discussion about what each of them would change in America if they were able. My son enthusiastically raised his hand and said, “The President!”

I wonder where he got that idea from... :-0

The Scholastic poll will be interesting in October. it has been right for nearly every year, including Bush in 2000. Interesting how accurate it is most years, with only two exceptions: They picked Nixon instead of JFK and Dewey instead of Truman.

I know. :( My dad has sense passed away but is still registered to vote in NY. My mom always votes absentee because she is in poor health and can't get around. They've asked her for close to 10 years if her husband will be voting absentee also, and she continually tells them he has died. But he's still on the voter roll...

Were they given a “none of the above” choice? Did some abstain, as I would have done?

After election day my grandaughter ( kindergarten at the time) was given an obama sticker. she promptly peeled it off and crumpled it and threw it into the waste basket. she sees my paycheck too.

In 1984, my class was asked who they wanted for President. All but one picked Reagan. That approximately equals the electoral vote that year.

I was shocked when I got into the real world how many productive people were fooled by the democrat party and supported it against their own interests.

My grandchildren are home schooled. Mom attended the University of Dallas. They know who James Madison was.

From the story..."when all the kids were talking to each other about taxes, and even if some didn't know what they were, they knew their parents didn't like them."

One good way to teach a youngster about taxes is to give them the exact amount of money to buy a pack of gum at its sticker price, but don't give them any more, even if they ask. See how they respond to sales tax. They will remember it.

Should of been there when she asked a couple of hippie looking college kids “You've got an Obama sticker on your car? Are all hippies crazy?” I about died. But at 10 years old, only weighing 49 pounds and a height of 49 inches people think she's about 6 and so cute they can't get mad. I told her this will not always be the case. The college kids laughed and said the Obama sticker was old, they were voting Green. As we walked away, she said at least they're not voting for Obama, but how can they vote for a color? I had to explain that one.
