MIAMI BEACH (CBSMiami) — A 23-year-old Miami-Dade man is being held on $251,000 after police say he severely beat his girlfriend’s 4-year-old son.
The child remains in critical condition at Miami Children’s Hospital and one veteran officer says the story “breaks your heart.”
Sgt. Bobby Hernandez of the Miami Beach Police Department tells CBS4’s Peter D’Oench, “It breaks your heart. It really breaks your heart because a child is so innocent. He can’t even defend himself.”
The judge in bond court on Friday was so concerned that the child might not survive that she raised bond for the defendant, Gabby Cancel Jr., to $251,000.
Police say the child is having trouble swallowing food and water.
Amid his own tears, the boy told investigators that his “mother’s babe” beat him on September inside their apartment at 152 N.W. South River Drive on Miami Beach.
The report says the boy told police that Cancel choked him and told him to put his hands up and then punched him “in the tummy.”
He also said Cancel told him that if he told his mother about the assault, Cancel would punch him again.

A police report says Cancel fled down a staircase but tripped and fell and was taken into custody and denied the charges against him.
Hmmm... Lives in a place with a lot of trip hazards, eh? Maybe he needs a few more...
I hope the other inmates kill him, the state sterilizes her and the boy get placed in a Catholic orphanage.
Oh wait, they don't exist any more. Well, I'm sure the state can do a wonderful job of raising this damaged boy in their foster care system.

I hate to stereotype but that image is searing - wearing a sleeveless Miami Heat T-shirt. It’s a wonder he didn’t beat his bitch hoe girlfriend as well. Of course, he probably has. Give me a brake. This type listens to misogynistic lyrics and is mired in the moment, they want immediate gratification at any cost. It’s what I expect of that culture.

Not a comment cop - just found it curious that some dude would burst the innards of a child and someone would care about where it happened. I guess that means you are correct - I have a comprehension problem - exactly what is your point? You seem to feel strongly about it but have explained zero about it.
If you ran the numbers for domestic/child abuse for that area of Miami Vs let say just for fun,Miami Beach Id bet you the contrast would be obvious.Hope this helps?
