In Weight Watchers newest point system (PointsPlus), fresh fruits and most vegetables have a zero point value (essentially meaning that they are unlimited) this change was meant to encourage members to eat more whole plant foods and less processed foods, adding phytochemical value to their diet. This is certainly a positive step, and I applaud Weight Watchers for taking it. They have tweaked their program a bit, to make it healthier.
However, the Weight Watchers program is still far from a health-promoting eating style...........

I think Weight Watchers is a terrific program. What’s this guy’s beef? Not that I am going to read it, mind you. Criticizing something that works while not offering an alternative plan - so lame.
bump
He doesn’t offer a detailed plan but throws out that weight watchers is no good and that you ought to eat beans and rice and nuts and berries. Milk is bad. Chicken is bad. I guess all meat is, but he doesnt say. Basically I think he is saying weight watchers is bad because it’s not vegan.
Bingo!
I’ve found Weight Watchers works very well, and if the plan is followed as written, you end up with very good nutrition overall. (If you live on coffee and spinach, well ...)
I think it is a great program, the weight falls off.
The plan is easy as L, pretty much eat what you want as long as you stay within your points and weigh/measure everything.
There are splurge points and they are great for the weekend.
What is not to like?
I also like Atkins but I end up obsessing about too many things that I can’t eat.
“Whats this guys beef?”
He may be in bariatric medicine and WW doesn’t require a prescription. Money rules.
Another lefty that’s smarter than all the rest of us - vegan - LOL
The author starts off okay - Weight Watchers, like any calorie restricted diet, can get you to lose weight, but not necessarily in the healthiest manner. Some of the criticisms are valid. But he loses the plot when he makes claims like beans being healthier than chicken, or all fats being empty calories with no nutritional value.
We probably should all eat more fruits and veggies. But (good, healthy) meat and fats are important to a healthy diet too.
Which would theoretically make you healthier:
1. Eat only very healthy foods, but remain 50 lbs overweight.
2. Eat less healthy foods, but lose 50 lbs and achieve your target weight.
My doctor says “2” by a mile. The illnesses linked to obesity are many, and effect almost everyone who is obese in some way.
Those linked with eating bad things? Except for obvious hard connections like salt and hypertension, or sugar and diabetes - the links are not so conclusive.
My doctor, while suggesting a diet high in vegetables and proteins and low in carbs, said the main thing for me was to lose weight. And she really didn’t care too much what I ate if I was losing weight.
Nice to see you, TC. :)
Diabetics have a lot of chemical issues that are, to some extent, unique to each person. For some Type 2 diabetics, simply losing weight, with reasonable calories and exercise, makes a big difference in overall health. For others, and particularly for Type 1 diabetics, the Weight Watchers program just doesn’t address what’s going on.
Nice to see you, too. I’ll ping you to my pictures on the Undead Thread. My Kathleen has unspeakable cutenesses.
I agree. It’s a great program. I lost 25 lbs before my son’s wedding in May. I have to lose a lot more than that but stopped watching my points after the wedding and dropped out of the program. Sigh. I’ll have to face it, I need a program like WW to help me along.

Excellent! :)
