I eventually get around to goring everyone's ox, not that I try.
This is close to where I grew up and now live. I know the area, know the school, know some of the brats that attend it.
I do care about the discipline at the local schools. I don't want to face the choice of having to shoot this kid and her boyfriend(girlfriend) in a couple of years when they break into my house. Early discipline resolves some of those problems.

I went to Catholic schools in the early Sixties. The nuns were fairly loose with the pointers to the backside or a whack on the back of the head. I caught a few, can’t say it did any good. My older brother went to a Catholic high school in Newark, NJ(late ‘60’s). run by the Christian brothers of Ireland He was a bit of a problem but he got in trouble with a particular brother, in short the guy was a bum, he drank and eventually they sent him to another school. He punched my brother in the face and gave him a black eye. My Dad went to the school confronted the brother and threw him down a flight of stairs. He chased him out of the building and was yelling at him that if he caught him he’d kill him. I believe in discipline, not abuse and this case sounds like abuse.
I agree and your brothers case was clearly assault. I just wanted to comment for 2 reasons: 1 being I went to Catholic school in New Jersey and the other is that I have 12 and 8 year old son’s that go to school in Texas.
There is no doubt that I will do exactly as your father did should anyone lay a hand on them in anger.
a) She had the option of sitting out another day of suspension. b) Texas law allows parents to opt out of physical punishments.
How is that abuse?

Well said. Even FReepers can out themselves as dirty old men. Luckily, it’s not against the law unless they start spanking 15yo girls themselves.
The idea of a grown man spanking a young girls read end doesn’t sound like abuse to you? That doesn’t sound sick to you!?! Pal, you got a problem.
She didn't have to take the swats. She had other options. Physical discipline is not abuse. Regardless of your outrage.

The school board will need to see those photos and maybe post them on the school website. Full exposure...Full disclosure rather.
This is well beyond physical discipline. Regardless of your smug and rather perverse condoning of it.
Texas law allows for them.

Sorry man, but in my book there’s no damn good reason for a grown man to be doing ANYTHING with a young girls read end.
Spankings as a “cause celebre” for the leftist crowd
(admittedly true, but irrelevant) is no reason to let
them become a cause celebre for “the rightist crowd”,
especially since anyone who would countenance this is doing
it because they’ve already relinquished a degree of parental
control that is their birthright and their birthright alone.
THE REAL ISSUE here, among others, is how much latitude
is given TOTAL STRANGERS, like teachers, to administer this
kind of punishment on a teenage girl for something as run-of-the-mill as letting someone else copy test answers. The fact that a male adult did this makes it look like a highly perverted opportunity that he obviously couldn’t resist taking. This guy raised welts and created bruises on somebody else’s child. I don’t care what the Texas law is
(and it’s for good reason that they only allowed “same-sex” spanking); anybody did that to my daughter, and I’d find them and ask them politely why I shouldn’t kick the shite out of them right then and there. And then I’d sue him , just on general principles, and on the off chance that it would initiate a dialogue they obviously wouldn’t want.
The only reason for a parent NOT TO DO THIS, would be to spare their child any more embarrassment and humiliation than they’ve already been subjected to.
B) She had the option of sitting out for another day and not taking the swats.
C) Texas law says the parents can opt out of physical discipline. Her parents didn't.

A man in a position of authority put his hands on the rear end of a teenage girl, not incidentally for the purpose of inflicting pain.
And you believe -- no, preen -- over the "good disciplinary practice" this is. You want to pretend there's no level of sexual gratification in such an act. That's SICK. You can quote chapter and verse of Texas law all you want. It's SICK. And if this town allows it to go unpunished, they're all sick as well.
I didn't get that from the article. SOP here is to use a paddle, not hands. In the hallway.
However, slapping her with an open hand would have been legal as well.
You may see some sexual element to this... I can't speak to that, I think it says a lot about you.
The culture here in Texas is different than it is in Maryland, I suppose.
Swats do leave bruises, welts, and marks (or did when I was in school).
You will chose to believe what you want.

Yes, it means I'm not a blind fool. Read the comments here.

In this regard, I thank God it is. I pity anyone who believes leaving marks and welts is a "swat", or ever necessary for discipline.
**done**
Projection. Pure projection.

Paint stirrers? Seriously? PAINT STIRRERS?
I used a hefty wooden spoon...not like the wooden spoons today. I’m talking a monster wooden spoon.
She still remembers it, even though I used it only once. That’s all it took. ;o)
The threat of the punishment is most often the best punishment.
Yes...I absolutely know just how abused you were. You are such a loveable man, who is capable of loving his family so gosh darn much....the abuse must have been incredible. lol
