Okay, I sometimes stumble across a video that's too good not to pass along. If you want 4 minutes of cool (and humorous) entertainment, take a break from campaign fatigue and check out this video. It's brand new, and it's a song on Dylan's new CD.
By the way, the co-writer of this song is Robert Hunter. Yikes... He's the Grateful Dead family member who wrote 'Truckin'!

Some how I was set to be a test for HTML5 on YouTube. Turned that feature off and it worked fine with Firefox. Don’t know how that happened.
I never understood why he gets tagged as a communist or even a liberal. Maybe it stems back to the counterculture of the 1960s when he was lumped in with that movement and many anointed him as their generation's spokesman. Dylan always rejected that mantle and by the time Woodstock happened in 1969, Dylan made sure he was far away from that whole scene - even though he had a house nearby.
Yes, Dylan did have a more liberal bent when he was a young man but then, didn't most of us? Dylan will always remain an enigma (it's part of his appeal) but all indications are that he lives a rather conservative private life and is more like us then them.
For fifty years now, Bob Dylan has been writing songs and putting out quality albums. When his first album came out, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones hadn't even started to record yet. Now that's longevity.

As a lifelong musician, I have a very diverse range in musical taste. In my collection you'll find everything from Merle Haggard to Frank Zappa.
Lots of Dylan's stuff is pretty good. I enjoyed the highway 61 album probably the best. This particular song doesn't do anything for me.
You have a point. But, it's the same one John McCain made when he griped on that Ohio radio talk-show host (Cunningham?) for saying "Hussein" is Obama's middle name. So you are in questionable company when you complain about somebody referring to somebody else by their "real" name.
I've never heard Bob Dylan say he hated the Zimmerman name, but then, I may not have been paying attention. I really don't like his music. Not even a little bit. Sort of like John "Cougar" Melonhead, a rose by any other name....
Read the Rolling Stone mag interview where this Robert Zimmerman repeatedly calls himself Robert Zimmerman and talks about a Hell's Angel named Bobby Zimmerman. Is Dylan insulting himself?
The interview is really worth reading even if the mag is not worth paying for (I read it in B&N Starbucks.)

Cat? We had at least two threads lately on the same RS article. One was a blurb on Dylan's slavery comments from the RS article. One dealt with (if I remember) a Freeper's comment about how Dylan had upset the Reds by never buckling under to them.
The range of comments in the two articles was night and day.
.The 'slavery quotes' article kept calling Dylan "Zimmerman", calling him a commie, saying he had no talent, saying he was against the Vietnam War, included anecdotes of FReepers whose mothers said they cried in their cribs whenever they heard Bob Dylan . . . . and it was "Zimmerman" this and "Zimmerman" that.
Posters in the other article mentioned his talent, his pro-Israel works, his refusal to join the Red movement . . . and his was called Dylan.
It became clear, at least to me, that on the "he has no talent, he's a commie, he's a hard-core socialist, he was against the Viet Nam war . . . " thread, posters went out of their way to call him Zimmerman instead of Dylan.
My opinion. I appreciate hearing yours.
That is an interesting observation. I recall the two articles, though I don’t recall the insulting use of “Zimmerman”, and I’ll take your word for it. When I call him Zimmerman or Zimmy myself, it is without intention to insult or praise, as it were.
As I mentioned, he’s a little hung up on that dead Hell’s Angel Bobby Zimmerman, and talks extensively about transfiguration in relation to him (as well as misremembers the date of his death by 3 years.) Also, while we’re at it, the interview reveals as much about Dylan as about the obsession of the MSM (and RS is by now MSM.) For instance, the interviewer (Mikhail Gilmore, brother of and beneficiary as a journalist of the other Gilmore’s notoriety), presses Dylan to say something about Obama, and Dylan refuses and refuses, multiple times. The slavery quote itself can be read and understood in its full context.
And when I do, I'm trying to belittle, insult, and call out the Muslim in Chief for what he really is.
That's what generally being done with Dylan.
If every time John Wayne were to be mentioned on FR, I'd say something about him and call him "Marion Michael Morrison", in quotes, you would see just how quickly people would complain about somebody referring to somebody else by their 'real' name.

Never would have asked had I known that. My own personal sense is that actual real life musicians always have a pretty wide range of musical interests. Of course, I’m talking about my self as well, as I, too, am a lifelong musician, with Haggard and Zappa in the library as well. Singer songwriter stuff to what would have been called modern jazz in the 50s.
Said Sam Bush while he and Jorma Kaukonen (sp?) were playing a workshop together at a festival: the more music you play the more you figure out that it’s all just pickin’, except for the singing.
Yeah! The only art Dwight needs is his music!
Still remember the first time I heard Guitars Cadillacs, that song just blew me away.

I bought my first Dylan album as a teenager and it was, naturally, the ‘Greatest Hits” LP. It came with a poster and I had the poster on my wall for years. After listening to ‘Greatest Hits’ I ended up going back and acquiring most of the albums from which those songs came anyway. (Back in the ‘60s in my neighborhood, a lot of trading went on - - baseball cards, comic books, records...)
The first newly released Dylan LP I ever bought was ‘Nashville Skyline’, and it’s still one of my favorites 40+ years later. In fact, I bought it soon after buying the ‘Lay Lady Lay’ 45. My favorite Dylan LP, though, remains ‘Blood on the Tracks’. Just wow.
The people here who call Dylan a “communist” or a “liberal” are simply knee-jerk know-nothings. They don’t mean any harm - - they just bleat without really having a clue. Brush them off like dandruff. Dylan is indeed an enigma, but he is also a family man who keeps his private life private. Near as I can tell, Dylan is probably closer to libertarian than anything else. I suspect he doesn’t trust or particularly like politicians in general.
