Review: 'NCIS' season ten premiere
By Rick Ellis
Season nine found Gibbs... --snip-- He began a relationship with CIA analyst Samantha Ryan (Jamie Lee Curtis) and there were moments in the middle of the season where it seemed as if Gibbs was finally at peace. It was a slightly more optimistic take on his life and for fans, one that was welcomed. But the season ended with an arc that ripped that momentary contentment into small pieces and moved the series into a new direction for season ten. It was an arc with some jarring moments and it set up a season premiere that moves Gibbs into a much darker place.
The arc began with sabotage on several Navy ships. A mysterious series of explosions were initially thought to be terrorism but the agents slowly began to realize the motivations were a bit more complex. One of the things I like about "NCIS" is that it never takes the easy way out with villains. Unlike some similar genre shows, the bad guys are more likely to be American malcontents than foreign operatives. There is respect for the Navy, but the show isn't afraid to show the worst parts of the military.
In this case the attacks were being planned by a mysterious industrialist, Harper Dearing (Robert Shiff). --snip-- Dearing seemed to have the upper hand and last season ended with the bombing of NCIS headquarters. To say nothing of Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard's (David McCallum) apparent fatal heart attack on a beach in Florida. Agents DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) and David (Cote de Pablo) are stuck in an elevator following the blast and it's not clear about the fate of Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette) and Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray).

I agree. I still enjoy cathcing the reruns of
episodes I missed, but the last few seasons
have definitely taken a liberal slant.
What really irks me, though, is that my husbamd
(who is actually a long time poster on here)
thinks I see things that aren’t there, such as the
liberal slant in NCIS. He’s been pretty pissed at
me for 4 years now, for going so ballistic at obama.
He’s not a Barry fan, either, he just thinks I waste
too much time and energy on the subject.
If Barry wins again I don’t think hubby will be able
to take my anger and frustration.
Good show - I can’t wait for this show to come back on.
Pauley Perrette isn’t just a liberal, she worships Obama:
From Twitter:
Guys! Can You hound Michelle Obama & Barack Obama & ask if they watch me ABBY on NCIS? It’s my dream They must! LOVE THEM! They’re totally down & cool & will love it! TY! If Twitter fans get me adopted by Obamas I’ll post pics of Me & Michelle Obama, Barack Obama & BoBama the dog! Get Em!
“Then Abby had her 40 plus face stuck in the background of too many of the dialogs. “
People still dressing like that at 40 are just sad.
She is stuck in the 1990’s and has not grown.
I was very disappointed in the episode. Forst off, it was just too easy. The FBI, et al could never catch Deering for years... super elusive bad guy... then you get the call that they trace to a car in a parking lot. As soon as I saw the “thermal image” I expected the car to blow up... it did. The body in the car... too badly burned, but they accepted that it was him, except Gibbs... then the concluding scene... Just stupid. I sat there at the end of the episode thinking about the wasted time I just lost and feeling suckered for waiting anxiously all summer for the answers to the cliffhanger. Just a really , really bad episode.
Director Vance’s “It’s HIM!” comment in autopsy actually ticked me off - it was simple and stupid from what has always been a complex and intelligent character.
I caught the BS about Michelle Obama, even though my family did not. They seemed surprised to have it pointed out to them.
I am glad that they opened the show with Ducky’s waking up in “purgatory” (my wife loved that bit).
Because they rushed the last half of the show, they missed a great chance to develop the enmity/affinity between Dearing and Gibbs. As it was done, Dearing’s death is little more than murder. Gibbs always deals in justifiable homicide. The writers blew it.
I also thought the FBI hooker’s finding Dearing was far too dang easy for someone who had eluded detection for so long. The cell phone in the car with the dead brother was at least a plausible defensive move on Dearing’s part. The “I don’t know you but why don’t we go somewhere and talk, or something.” come on from the FBI check was utterly ridiculous. Well beneath the caliber of the show - at least in the past.
This should have been a two-parter.
JMO, notch! ;-P
Since I dropped cable and use Netflix/Hulu/Crackle for entertainment my viewing habits completely changed. I no longer worry about the latest broadcast shows. In fact, the only “first run” shows I watch are sporting events.
I’ve discovered tons of shows I had missed in the past—Stargate, Battlestar Galactica, The IT Crowd (British), early SNL episodes (which make the current ones look pathetic), and several anime series. Plus documentaries like Fat Head, The Story of 1, King Corn, or Helvetica that would never have been on my radar.
that’s so Wo Fat can come back an terrorize McG some more. The way Wo Fat’s guys used to free him from the transfer van was a bit too much. Like something out of a James Bond flick. Steve’s mom should have offed Wo Fat. She had the perfect oppurtunity. Now 5-O has to deal with him again. But, like in the original series, Fat never was cought.
An aside, producers in the original series named Wo Fat for after a restaurant in Honolulu.
I signed up for Hulu, but put it on hold. I couldn’t find much that interested me. Same for Crackle. Crackle especially seems fairly limited. I signed up for Sony Entertainment and Vudu, but those are pay-as-you-go so I consider them useful for good movies that may not yet be on Netflix.
One series I enjoyed on Netflix was Hell on Wheels. It’s a Western based on the expansion of the Union Pacific after the Civil War. They have 10 of 18 episodes on Netflix. It’s rated PG-13, and is pretty graphic regarding language and violence, but it’s a pretty riveting storyline with interesting characters. But, my main interest is old movies.
Also, since Pandora Radio is available, I can set it to run music when we feel like it.
Last nights Sons of Anarchy made me cry. I felt so blinsided by it. And I will say no more to avoid spoilers.
No Criminal Minds?
Ya Think??!?!??
I was much happier not knowing that.
The actress who plays the part of “Abby Sciuoto” on ‘NCIS’, has already stated in the past few weeks, that she is quite comfortable in ‘paying more taxes from her salary’.
The character ‘Gibbs’ admitted in the show that ‘he hurt my family’, with the idea of ‘his family’ being the ‘NCIS Team’, that he leads, brewing for some time, between the basement discussion with ‘Ziva David’, of how he has been more of a father to her, than her Israeli Mossad Chief father, ‘Eli David’, and the training/’grooming’/’surrogate son’ (I’m old Fed guy, so this is the correct term ‘grooming’) of ‘Anthony DiNozzo’ in leading the team.
One thing about the series that I have noticed, from the beginning. Anyone that was ‘involved in Cold War activities’, has been played very low key, including Gibbs, Franks, and others whom I forget at the moment, and have survived for the sake of the show, “to have all the loose strings finally tied up and pigeonholed.”
That is probably the most nauseating tweet I’ve ever read.
I caught that too. Did you catch the part where the “news” is reporting that the president will not tolerate acts of terrorism...or words to that effect? I thought, “wait a minute, must be some other president. Obamashit would never call it terrorism.”
“The jury is still out on “Revolution” being a regular stop. “
I love this show. Katnis meets One Second After. But I am SO afraid they are going to take a PC turn. It’s almost like you can smell it coming.
Put me on a ping list for these updates if you have one.
I will watch "Vegas" in the coming weeks.... but they need some more pretty Vegas showgals!
This last episode of Revolution was disappointing. Some liberals I know do like the fact they are banning guns for everyone except the militia.
