Was the original call numbers 1290? So now we have to check 640?

Original Report 9/26: The News/Talk format of Clear Channel’s 640/92.3 WGST Atlanta will soon be no more as Rush Limbaugh moves crosstown to Cox’ 750/95.5 WSB.
Limbaugh will keep his usual 12pm-3pm timeslot as he moves to WSB on Monday, October 1. To make room for Limbuagh, WSB will adjust its programming lineup. Neal Boortz, who will be retiring in January and replaced by Herman Cain will drop the 12pm hour to air from 830am to 12pm. Clark Howard, who had aired live on WSB from 1pm to 3pm will shift to 8pm to 10pm. Sean Hannity will lose an hour of his show, now airing from 3 to 5pm. WSB will add a PM news block from 5 to 7pm to better compete with Cumulus’ “All News 106.7” WYAY.

Sounds like the lefties want all conservative talk radio off the air - and are willing to take huge cuts in income to accomplish their no-conservatives agenda.

I think this is Clear Channel doing this.

In Boston they had a station running cons. talk on 1200
incl. Rush. It suffered in ratings so they offered Rush
back to the more powerful WRKO (Entercom) and now they’re
running... all comedy. What a joke. (Boston’s WRKO is
owned by Entercom whose head, David Field, is a moonbat as I understand it—but they run conservative talk because it
makes money for them. In...Boston...)

Cool - I listen to Boortz streaming on WSB in the mornings and have to switch the channel whenever El Rushbo is due to come on. Now I can just leave it on WSB.

So what will happen to their "later afternoon" local hosts on 640? Nobody will stick around to change back to 640 AM later in the day.

Saturday near noon - they used to run the Cigar Dave show and the "WeekEnd Show" - which at times were interesting. That going to get killed (er, translated) as well?

The rich keep getting richer...WGST was once a powerhouse, back when Boortz was on that station and Rush was part of their weekday line-up. When Boortz moved to WSB back in the early 90s, WGST’s ratings crumbled, and never recovered. I haven’t seen a break-out of an Atlanta ratings book in quite a while, but I’d bet Rush was the only show on GST that attracted even middling ratings. On WSB, with a lead-in from Bootz, he’ll dominate the mid-day time slot.

WGST won’t do any better with ESPN Deportes, or whatever the hell they are now airing. But the format will be a lot cheaper. Their new line-up will probably include only one local show (at best), with the rest of their programming coming from the network. Because of that, WGST will likely make more money, even with low ratings.

One more note: Rush’s new Atlanta home is owned by Cox Communications, which is also controlled by a prominent Democratic family. But they also know what works in broadcasting (and generates profits), and that’s why they’ve paid Neal a fortune over the past 20 years. They’ve also allowed their lead anchor on WSB-TV (Justin Farmer) to do some investigative reporting that has been highly critical of Obama Administration policies. Never let politics get in the way of making money...

I thought I heard Clark Howard is taking over the morning duties after Boortz retires in January. Although I know Herman Cain will have a show, too. Just don’t know what time slot.

At 3:00 I was in the car waiting for Rusty Humphries to come on and suddenly it went to Spanish.

I liked listening to Rusty Humphries in the afternoon.

Some mentioned on the AJC blog that Clear Channel was clearly channeling the gays and illegal aliens. Who knew that they had such purchasing power over conservatives?

My questions is this. Why are all of these changes six weeks out from the elections? Do they know something that we don’t already know and are bracing for our bastard child president to shut down after the elections?

Don’t tell me it is the physical year end. These guys are just outright leaving.

Boortz, Savage, Humphries and I know of others but can’t think of their names right now.

SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY GOING ON!

This is good news for Atlanta listeners. 640 AM signal is a piece of crap. Get into the northern suburbs, and it’s all static.

Yeah. It was terrible in the home radio. The car was much better. I think there is a booster in the car radio.

I think that Clear Channel knows that they are going to be Target A#1 for retribution if Obozo gets a second term. So they are quietly distancing themselves from conservative talk IMHO.

With the stroke of a pen the FCC could conceivably force them to divest 1500 of their stations and ruin them.

Back in the 90’s it was a great radio station with The King in the morning and Dave Stone at 9AM and Rush at noon and Kimmer at 3 and then that Saturday Morning Live show they had was pretty funny for local radio. But then someone had an idea called Planet Radio and the rest they say is history.
