Iowa's Early Voting Dismisses Debate Game-Changers
Yahoo News ^ | Sept. 28th, 2012 | Sherry Tomfeld

I don't like early voting, and think it should be reserved for the military and some seniors. This year is a great example of why debates could sway voters. Foreign affairs, the deaths of Americans in Libya, the truth about our country's financial future are all up for debate. They are serious issues and all answers will be viewed, not only by Americans, but by the world.

We were talking about this very thing. What was Iowa, the state I'm from, thinking about? If you can't get off the couch and away from Honey Boo Boo to go vote, maybe you have a more extensive problem.

My family has always treated "voting DAY" as a very special day..a day of pride in our country. My Mom really instilled in us to go vote or don't bitch about the outcome. Make time for your country. Oh well..just my rant.

The people early voting are overwhelmingly partisan. NOTHING is going to sway their vote. Obama could be caught in bed with a goat and 10 kilos of coke and the Rats would still vote for him. The only ones left that the debates are going to sway are the vaunted “independents”. And frankly if those idiots are still undecided after almost 4 years of this crap they probably shouldn’t be allowed to vote. I’m sick of elections in this country coming down to the very idiots too stupid and uninterested to actually pay attention for 99% of the time.

My biggest problem with early voting is the potential for widespread fraud. Examples in Wisconsin were Rats going into nursing homes and group homes for the disabled and ‘helping” them fill out their ballots.

Then republicans have to do the same, and go get votes.

....This 59-year-old housewife is going to wait for Nov. 6 to vote. I'll be out there braving the weather with other Wapello voters after I have all the information.....

I seriously doubt that any info that may come forward will change the 59 year old housewife's vote. I suspect that most people that vote early have their candidate chosen and will stick with that candidate through thick and thin. Hell we could still be riding around in the horse and buggy mode but things change, so adapt.

Who’s in control of the “mailed-in” votes?

Developing processes to help a candidate of your choice is open to all. The repubs and independents should become much more active in these processes.

Some churches hold early voting initiatives such as gathering after Sunday service to all go down to the local early voting station and cast their votes. Other groups or organizations could with some work and effort encourage or promote legitimate early voting.

Early voters are not going to be swayed by a debate. If we had early voting in SC I would go. As it is, I will vote absentee as there is no guarantee I will be in town on election day.

Good point but republicans have no excuse, they know what’s at stake. Stay vigilant.

There is a huge difference in the way Republicans do it and Democrats.

Rats will “help” by voting a straight D ticket for someone who can’t tell you who they want to vote for.

A Pub will realize the person is not able to cast a vote and moves on to the next with out casting a vote in the persons name.

That maybe but there are other methods of early voting that don’t require a solicitor to help the person vote, such as in person early voting. The Pubs could organize and promote this type efforts if they wanted to. Initiative and work towards early voting isn’t limited to the Rats but they may be more adept at it.

Rush said something yesterday to the effect that early voting started in Iowa and that the RATS had cast 100,000 votes to the pubbies 6,000. I don’t know it’s true or if Rush was saying it “tongue in cheek”. Any Iowans out there who can clarify this?

Iowa numbers per Fox News yesterday but doesn’t speak to number of ballots cast........

snip

The Democrats have built a nearly 5-1 advantage statewide in the number of absentee ballots requested as of Wednesday, with 119,318 compared to 24,909 for Republicans, according to the Iowa Secretary of State’s Office. Another 41,000 independent voters have also requested ballots. Both campaigns say they believe the gap will narrow as Republicans increase their early voting efforts, but it also reflects differences in the parties’ get-out-the-vote operations.

Wow! That is a scary number. One would guess that the democrats are scouring rest homes and mental facilities “helping”the unfortunates to “vote”.
