There is no, unfortunately, "Gault's Gulch" where the oppressed believers in personal responsibility and individual freedom can escape to... ...at least not yet.
I think that the Free State Project picked the wrong state in New Hampshire. It is clear now that any picked state for such a project would have to be far from the nearest litter box (e.g. Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle) as cities refugees can easily counteract a small group of principled libertarian types.
You need small population, distance from big cities, especially coastal cities, and some openness of the existing populace to libertarian types. That means places like Wyoming (too close to Denver?), Alaska, or maybe North Dakota or Alaska.

I have said for a long time that NH needed to establish a Minuteman project on the MA line in about 1950.
Actually, I'm starting to think that what we need to do to save the country is not to take over a state with right thinking people but to fence off an area in the middle of nowhere (A square about 100 miles per side in the Nevada dessert would do it) Then drop all of the Progressives, Communists, and Beautiful people from CA and Cape Cod into this area so they can build their utopia there but they can't get out to escape the mess they create

The regions you suggest are good in their remoteness, natural resources and ease of defense but Texas has the same resources, semi-remoteness (far from the Leftist crowd at any rate) and an already established large population of patriots who have the Founders’ understanding of the 2nd Amendment.
Funny, I know my thread is fantastic speculation but if Obama wins it will be as if a solar eclipse proved the wild speculations of Einstein...OMG it is!

Alaska? The Dakotas? Wyoming? The growing season is way too short and the heating season way too long. Galt’s Gulch must be someplace warmer. Texas sounds good to me, but there are large sections of the Southeast that could qualify.
