I was buying beer in Texas once and they wanted to scan my DL.
The clerk could clearly see that I was 50 years old and not a teen.

I said Really?
She insisted and said that it must be scanned.
Miffed, I gave it to her.
She said this license is 3 days expired (the state had not sent me a renewal notice)
I said it may be expired but it is a state document that clearly states my age.
She wasn’t buying it, she was a rube in a big box store.
I handed her my CHL and said is this a valid
State document?

Yessir.

Annoying, but hardly an infringement.

And quite frankly I could have walked across the street and made the purchase no questions asked.

You sure she wasn't just flirting with you?

Being carded at such an advanced age can be annoying, but I usually thank them.

Look, I get that alcohol is age restricted and even the self checkouts make a clerk ok the purchase. Works for me. Even on Sunday.

And I understand that over the counter cough syrup and allergy meds aren't over the counter any more and why. I'm ok with that. You might as well add Skittles and Arizona Iced whatever to the list while you're at it.

But being carded for a 4 pack of BiC lighters that were on sale? Or a can of spray duster? What am I missing here?

The cashier wasn't surprised when I declined to buy the 4 pack. She told me that's what most people do.
