A group of Japanese scientists announced Wednesday that they have finally synthesized the elusive element 113, which has been called ununtrium.

If confirmed, the feat would mark the first time Japanese researchers have been first to synthesize an element of the periodic table. It would also be the first time an Asian research team has had the honor of naming an element. …

Because 3rd grade chemistry needs updating.

How many elements have been added to the periodic table since I first graced the earth?

Gold is inevitable as well. But count on those inventors to take a colossal short position first.

I was born in 1960. There have been 12 confirmed discoveries of “new” elements during my lifetime. About 4 more unconfirmed discoveries (113 being one).

When you were born there were zero confirmed extra-solar planets. Now, we can't keep up with the discoveries. (there's an app for that)

Amazing time to live in.

Life is exponential.

Great! Hopefully they can make Element 115 soon. That is the element that Bob Lazar, who claims to have worked at Area 51, says powered the flying saucers the US Government has captured.

When I was born, Pluto was a planet (but Betty wasn’t a vitamin).

They hadn't really defined planets back then, right after dirt was invented, before Moses became a CPL. Pluto was still just a lonely comet in a weird 19 degree inclined orbit.

Now, we have a snappy new definition of planets.

Pluto is RIGHT OUT!

Not a planet.

un-un-tri-um = 113. This is just a temporary name, and the Japanese did not come up with it; IUPAC did.

un-un-un-ium = 111; renamed Roentgenium (Rg)
un-un-bi-um = 112; renamed Copernicium (Cn)
un-un-quad-ium = 114; renamed Flerovium (Fl)
un-un-pent-ium = 115; not renamed (uses Greek root instead of Latin)
un-un-hex-ium = 116; renamed Livermorium (Lv) - again Greek root here.

But Japan is all radioactive anyway from the reactor flooding, so they named it Tsunamium.
