Good idea & got it covered. I’ve got five 100ft x 4ft rolls of 20-mil plastic sheeting, 1” batting strips and an HD staple gun to seal it all up, over the winter. This just a staging area for our Family’s extensive 20ft x 40ft underground “Safe Unit”...

“Better than Bullion” makes a ham base that is in a glass jar. I’ve used it when I can’t find a ham hock at the store. Find it in your soup and broth aisle.
Don’t really know what would happen to it if not refrigerated, though.

Also, if you have a pressure canner, when pork goes on sale, cook it and then pressure can it yourself.

Depends on the condition of the water in question.
Muddy water needs settling first, then filtering through a fabric filter.
Is biological oxygen demand present in the water? If so either oxygen or chlorine is needed to oxidize out the BOD. Settlement would then be needed, or running through a sand filter.
If the water looks clear, then SSKI drops would render the water safe to drink.

A lot of preppers in my area lament the warm, moist conditions as not being conducive to adequate long-term storage.Stock canned goods of what your family normally eats. Rotate them first in first out and check for rust.

Make sure to label everything with the produce and the date. Sugar and salt particularly. I made the mistake of dumping what I thought was sugar into some lovely strawberries once only to find out it was salt. Lesson learned.

Thanks for the link to the bucket lids. I already need those yearly (far from cities and sometimes months of deep winter ice pack).
They are a very good company with numerous prepper items. I get all of my materials for drip and vertical gardens from them. I'm glad you found it useful.
