BURBANK (CBSLA.com) A man found dead on the side of the Golden State (5) Freeway was identified Wednesday as an Alaska Airlines pilot.
Burbank police were called at 5:55 p.m. Tuesday to the Scott Road off-ramp on the southbound side of the freeway, where a man was lying motionless.
Paramedics announced the man dead at the scene.
The Los Angeles County Coroners Office identified the victim as 55-year-old Alaska Airlines Captain Lee Clifford Morris.
The pilot was a grandfather and engaged to be married.
Detectives said they consider the death of the Richland, Washington resident suspicious.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Captain Morris, who was a highly respected pilot and 26-year veteran at Alaska. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Lees fiancée and other loved ones. He will be greatly missed by his fellow pilots and all employees at Alaska, Alaska Airlines Vice President of Flight Ooperations Gary Beck said in a statement.
Anyone who may have seen something suspicious on the off-ramp between midnight and 6 p.m. Tuesday was asked to call police at (818)238-3210.
That’s kinda weird..............
Phony news item but I hope they ruled that out for real.
I wonder where his airline ID card is.
This is a very peculiar story.
I haven’t been able to get much, if any information about what happened — I’m wondering if this story is going to be disappeared.
Live close by — heard an armada of helicopters flying over for hours and endless sirens, it went on for hours and hours over our house. Finally heard on the news that a body had been found along the freeway off ramp — figured it was a transient or homeless bum, they hide and camp in the bushes around that area (my dogs go CRAZY).
Later, it came out that the body was that of an Alaska Airline pilot — very little info today.
Weird.
We are shocked here in Richland.
