On the heels of 1080 WHOO Orlando dropping its ESPN Radio affiliation, the network has found a new affiliate in the market. Cox Media’s 580 WDBO will soon drop its simulcast of 96.5 WDBO-FM to flip to Sports. Cox registered 580ESPN.com, 580ESPNOrlando.com, and 580Orlando.com for the new format. WDBO began simulcasting on 96.5 in August 2011. The shift of 580 to Sports will give Orlando four stations in the format in the market: WDBO, Clear Channel’s “740 The Game” WYGM, 810 WRSO, and 1080 WHOO. Relatedly in Tampa where 1040 WHBO also dropped ESPN Radio this week, Clear Channel’s 620 WDAE has picked up the network for nights and weekends while displacing Fox Sports Radio to sister 1250 WHNZ.
No, we don’t have no illegal Mexican problem here...either in Atlanta, nor in Orlando....next time your driving, set you AM dial to scan and see how many stations are in Mexican. 50 to 100 Million illegals in this country...12 million? A lie....
Good news for the sports fans....1080 had a non-existent signal after dark in most of Orlando area...so ESPN Radio going to 580 will be a great sports asset. Now its 4 sports radio stations in the Orlando market...when just 5 yrs ago we had one...and only during the daytime
As for news/talk....WDBO has been moving more and more to the left. They have pretty much been pro-Black Racist in their coverage of the Trayvon Martin case....and quite frankly refuses to report the facts of that case.
I just hope this does not signal the end of AM radio. Sports radio is a good revenue-producer if done right...but does not have as large an audience than news/talk or music.

540AM also started airing on 104.5 FM, so I see that station eventually going to FM only
AM radio has an aging, shrinking audience, and is desperately searching for a format people will actually listen to. Spanish is just one of those flailing attempts. There was even a station here in Pittsburgh that tried it for awhile, and our Spanish speaking population is less than 1%.
640 AM Radio WGST in Atlanta ALSO switched to the ISPN (Er, ESPN) Illegal Sports Program Network (er, ESporte).
In Orlando area....the Spanish stations are a variety of various Latin American music and genres....Cuban, Puerto Rican, Dominican, and yes some Mexican. unlike a lot of areas Orlando has a mix of different Spanish peoples (Puerto Ricans are the majority, though)
However, you are correct, in other parts of the country AM radio is pretty much like that Wall of Voodoo song “I’m On a Mexican...Radiooooo”
I agree there is a certain hispanic makeup not Mexican of Florida, possibly New York denizens, but that is contrary to the ubiquitous infestation of illegal Mexicans residing throughout the rest of this country. THEY drive DirectV, with the Mexican TV offerings, THEY drive the radio stations everywhere locally, and THEY refuse to assimilate. Their economic influence is vast; one can see why Bank of America, Western Union, DirectV and so many other corporations pander to them, Mexicans who are here illegally.
They are illegal invaders and need to go the hell home.

Very true, though the article seems to say in this case 580 will be Eng language ESPN not “ESPN Deportes”. However in NYC
the powerful 1050 WEPN is now “ESPN Deportes” alright (as ESPN local & national shows went to 98.7)\
Here in Boston area Spanish language is in many spots on the AM dial and a couple FMs (one is a “translator” of an AM).
As I like to say, “Welcome to AM radio. For English,
please press _two_...”
Yes though FM will still dominate while AM will have some interesting “catches” for DX-ers or radio buffs...
(oddball stations like WJIB 740 Cambridge MA though they’re
maybe 5 w. at night!)
AM has some advantages (clear-channel outlets reaching wide areas) but disadvantages incl. interference, stations powering down or switching pattern after dark, etc.
It won’t be the end of AM but they will still exist as a curiosity and for sports (which CAN make money), religion,
some talk, children’s, and ethnic.

That’s right, someone had to buy time for libtalk in Boston—but there’s always NPR...)

Last year WEEI had to switch to FM to compete with WBZ-FM.
Now that fairly powerful AM at 850 switches to ESPN sports
as most people are on FM.
Of all the misuses of talk radio ESPN is as bad as it gets.This country is heading into the dustbin of history and people are wasting their time listening to what a lot of over paid Prima donna’s are doing.
