I read something similar to that about 40 years ago, where a Rabbi scholar wrote that the “giants” meant the “hairy ones,” speculating that they were remnant Neanderthals.

Males of our species and probably those of other Homo species prefer more feminine, rounder females. Homo Sapiens are more sleek and less angular than the other “Homos”. It would make sense for males of other Homo species to be attracted to our females. It would also make sense for males of our species to NOT be attracted to the rougher looking females of other species.
Females are naturally attracted to more angular, bigger boned males so it would make some sense for a greater percentage of our females to be attracted to neanderthals than our males. However, in those times females had less of a choice of who they mated with and force often determined who got with who.
Until humans developed better weapons, neanderthals were stronger and more likely to steal our women. Humans were far less likely to attack the bigger neanderthals for their women. Also, their women were less attractive to us and harder to control with force.
