The New York Yankees' World Series hopes may have just taken a hit, as shortstop Derek Jeter fractured his left ankle in game one of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday night.

Jeter suffered the injury while fielding a ground ball in the top of the 12th inning, with New York trailing 5-4. He immediately went down in pain, staying face down momentarily.

Try rooting for a REAL team someday, that knows the thrill of victory because they know actual suffering.

That's one reason why I stopped watching baseball. And it's why I love "parity" in football. On any weekend, there are about 15 teams, or about half the league, whose games are worth watching.

His 27.00 Postseason ERA is disgusting. Hope he doesn’t “close” out another game this year.

Kenny Rogers needs to hand the nickname “The Gambler” over to Doug Fister after loading the bases 3 times and coming out unscathed last night.

missed games due to bone bruise in left ankle. Broke same ankle. Gotta be related. Ankle musta been weakened.

I didn’t see the play. Sorry about Jeter.

Go Tigers. SoxNation is behind you 100%.
Sabathia would be on short rest for game 7. The lack of day off between O’s and Tigers series is an oddity.

I knew it was the Tiger’s night after the deflection off of Fister’s hand right to Jhonny. The ball was going their way.

As a Mets fan and a lifelong Yankee hater, I have to say your post was pretty repulsive.

I have to say the great times of my live were the 77 and 78 seasons. I was 13 and those Yankees were the best. That team I still marvel at and still think about Catfish and Thurman.

All the announcers at the games and all the so called sports media openly root for them
ad nauseum. In fact I got so tired of them last night I turned the sound off.

On Thursday in Oakland Verlander matched at least two all time records and set one of his own. The record he set was something like the fewest pitches pitched in a complete game shutout in the post season. (Something like 122 pitches)

Starting pitchers for today’s game are Anibal Sanchez and Hiroki Kuroda

Good comments.

The Yanks haven’t been as smart with their money as they could have been. Their only ‘key pieces’ under 32 are Cano, MAYBE Teixeira (not aging well), and (barely under 32) Sabathia.

Top players that fit aren’t available every year, and many won’t go to just any team that offers the most money.

I think I will tune in around 5 today. I want to take my little one to the Pumpkin Patch and try to get my bearings back and my faith! I am very negative just like I have been all season. I think Girardi should bench Arod permanently. What happened to Cervelli?

now whiny Yankee fans will have something to blame their loss on

Well, we were going to blame it on A-Rod, 'til Ibanez stepped in. Yankees have to start hitting again.

kuroda on short rest. makes it intresting. jap pitchers are used to going every 6 days ... change to american every 5 days ... now he be on 4th day. derek lowe early. lowe vs. sanchez means red sox undercurrents.

Yes you can’t appreciate heaven till you’ve seen hell. Am a Red Sox fan.

Last night as the Tigers had a 4-0 lead the Stadium was very very quiet. It prob wasn’t a sellout to begin with (many blame high prices and some “real Yankee fans can’t afford to go”) but there were more and more empty seats (I watched on TV).
A couple times a feeble LET’S GO YANKEES! chant was heard. Then the 9th inning comeback and the fans came to life.

I was tired, went to bed but clock radio had game on. Dozed off and heard Tigers won, and heard of Jeter’s injury.

Admittedly some schadenfreude in A-Rod, Yankees etc.

The highest spending teams don’t always win it all. 2003:
Marlins feat. future Sox Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell beat Yanks in WS

Red Sox paid $50 million just for the right to talk to
Daisuke Matsuzaka’s agent —other than being a help at the start, how did it turn out? Oh, but they DID keep him away
from the Yankees...Red Sox high payroll, finished last though right...

I was born in Boston, but married NJ. (you got a problem with that?) I’m a big Met fan now, but have always hated the Yankees. As a teen, my hero was Ted Williams (do the math) and the hardest games to watch now, are Mets/Sox. But the Yanks? Boo! I’m sorry about Jeter. But-—————

The Yankees can afford to stay calm and not worry . . . Valverde will be helping them out in the ninth.

Valverde is the tenth Yankee!

And I am a Tigers fan.

It makes me sick to see all the hard work and effort that this team puts in for eight innings just to stand by helplessly and watch Jim Leyland be stupidly loyal to a lost cause.

Miguel Cabrara was right to knock over the water cooler, and the OMG of Verlander said it all.

I mean, after he gave up the first home run to Ichiro - it was time to bring in Smyly.
