2 things hurt the Tigers in 06. They were a nearly all rookie team in the World Series and they bowled over the Yankees so fast in the playoffs they had a 12 day break before meeting the Cards.
This season things just keep dropping into place for them.
That’s how Yankee Stadium felt as well...as big as it was. They even had a “smoking area” after smoking was banned everywhere!
My boss had season tickets, very good seats. Close enough to the field, but shielded by the sun. Thank goodness. I remember going to the ladies room and this poor woman was completely sunburned and in pain.
Not only did we have the vendors coming around, we also had waitress service.
Ahhhh, the good ole days. Now we’re just trying to keep our heads above water!

No, don’t plan to as I am far from the area now. I agree with you, nothing like old Yankee Stadium. One of my associates has a few box seats they sold in his apartment! He worked for the Yanks for awhile when George S. was there.
Was watching a movie the other night and part was filmed in Yankee Stadium, FBI Story. Said to my wife, I recall exactly where that was filmed. Memories.
When I was stationed in NJ, we used to get USO tickets to see the Giants at YS. Never been to the meadowlands except to see my beloved Seton Hall Pirates play basketball when they played there.
My favorite parks now to see BB are Ranger Stadium and Camden Yards but I have never been unhappy to see a game in person. Saw Nolan Ryan’s last, and 7th no hitter, in the old Arlington Stadium and believe it or not it was more exciting than some WS games I attended. WS crowds tend to be the high roller entertainment folk rather than true fans IMO.
With the exception of Paul O’Neill. My goodness, how I hearted him!
I believe he played his last game in the old stadium, if I remember correctly.
True fans, that’s what we had in the old stadium. I haven’t even watched a baseball game since they built that new crapola.
To me, it is dead.
Regarding football and basketball, I could never get into it. Although, I did watch the Giants superbowl game, when Whitney Houston sang the national anthem.
Yeah. I’m pulling for the Tigers, too. The O’s swung at a lot of balls that dropped out of the strike zone (Davis and Jones were the worst offenders), and inside and outside off the plate. Hardy’s game winning hit in game 4 was the only ball out of 8 pitched that actually crossed the plate. The Tiger hitters will make the Yankee pitchers actually throw strikes. There will be a lot more runs scored in this series. Hopefully, next year the O’s hitters will figure it out.

Here’s a good Thurman Munson story:
Years ago the Yankees had a pitcher name Ken Clay. He was from Lynchburg, VA. One year, after the season, Ken was talking to a fellowship of christian athletes group and wasked the following question, “What was Bob Lemmon like as a manager?”
Clay responded, “The first game I started for Bob Lemmon, I was getting shelled in the first inning; down 3 or 4 runs and nobody out. Bob Lemmon came out to the mound, gave me a pat on the back told me everybody has a bad day, go get a shower, and go out and have a few beers. Thurman was standing there and said, ‘Hey, coach, since you’re conceeding the game, can I go get a few beers, too?’”
I used to go up to Detroit with my neighbor (a Tigers fan) when they played the O’s. Loved the old stadium. I remember once we had seats a few rows up from first base dugout. Jon Miller was standing down there on the field with his microphone looking for an interview. There were a group of O’s near him, including Cal Ripkin. I hollared, “Hey Jon, what’s the matter? Won’t anyone talk to you?” The group of O’s must have heard it because when he walked over to them, they all walked away laughing (including Ripkin).
If the Yankees had won the game, it would have been a Pyrrhic victory because of the injury to Derek Jeter. Instead they got a Pyrrhic defeat.
Getting ready to watch the 2nd game. Curious to see if the announcers can talk
without crying. They said last night it was tragic for the Yanks.
I’m sorry Derrick got hurt, I think he is a fine ball player
but it happens to a lot
of the good players. At his age I seriously doubt that he will be able to come back and play SS.
I don’t think any of the announcers realize that their obvious bias toward one team
contributes to the dislike of that team. My team is at home this time of year but I love the game and I like to see
good games. I don’t like hearing obvious rooting going on for either team.

They found something new to cry about. The blown call at 2nd kept them going for the rest of the game. Yes it was a bad call and Infante was clearly out but that’s baseball and THERE’S NO CRYING IN BASEBALL!

So, quit crying Girardi and Yankee fans.
And now they get to face “The Verlander” in his own front yard on Tuesday. Then Scherzer comes up in the rotation before they leave Detroit.
Tigers have a 50-31 regular season average at home
all is fair in love and baseball.
The Tigers and the Lions both won today. Can’t remember that ever happening. Hubby is happy!
