A couple of midtown canines deserve extra dog treats after alerting their owner to an early morning garage fire.
The barking dogs woke their owner just after 4 a.m.
She checked to see what they were barking at and discovered her garage on fire in the back yard, said Capt. Barrett Baker, spokesman for the Tucson Fire Department. The garage was detached from the house. She was able to get the dogs and get out of the house safely.
Fire crews were on the scene in the 1400 block of East Grant Road between north Mountain and Cherry avenues by 4:14 a.m. and had the blaze under control within eight minutes, Baker said.
The garage was fully involved when firefighters arrived but they were able to contain the the fire to the garage and prevent it from spreading to neighboring properties. Because the flames reached power lines above the garage, a crew from Tucson Electric Power responded to the scene to assist, Baker said.
None of the 23 firefighters who responded were injured in the blaze that destroyed the garage and heavily damaged the Toyota Tacoma inside. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Baker said. Damage is estimated at $32,000.

Dogs are so stupid - why didn’t they just alert the fire department directly?

This is why you never make your dog your insurance benefactor.

Leave it to the dogs. My cats would have muffled the fire alarms. :)

A few years ago one of our Jack Russels named Bobo alerted my husband to an exploding floor plug. The plug was under the sofa and had already set the sofa on fire. Bobo ran up and down the hall, from the den to the bedroom where my husband was in bed reading. Bobo continued to bark until my husband got up to see what was wrong. Bobo the Angel dog is what we called him.

Great story, and thanks for the ping. Would have responded earlier, but debate traffic made Free Republic impossible to access last night. 2nd week in a row. Arrrrrgggggghhhh!

Good job to the puppies and great job to the Fire dept in that community. Their response was very quick and they performed wonderfully!
The one segment of the population I love to pay to sit around doing nothing are firefighters!
