Republic Wireless has again opened a beta test for $19/month unlimited smartphone service.
With this innovative service, you get unlimited calling, texting, email, and web on a Motorola DEFY XT -- all with no contract. That means you pay the full retail price of $249 for the phone, plus a $29 activation fee.

With junk fees, this offer works out to be about $21/month and is the absolute cheapest unlimited smart phone plan in America.
Meanwhile, Metro PCS has a new no-contract plan that's $30/month for unlimited calling and texting, plus 250MB of 4G LTE data. That works out to be $360 annually -- including all taxes and regulatory fees.
There are only two phones you can use on the Metro PCS plan: the Coolpad Quattro 4G and the Huawei Activa 4G, each priced $79-$99 after rebate. Plus, you also pay a $10 activation fee on this limited-time offer.
I was considering upgrading to a 4G phone..they've been on sale for a month or so..but the just announced merger with T-Mobile gives me pause. Will I end up having to buy a new month again next year....any thoughts?

I was just looking at metro PCS. I’m stuck in a contract for now. I’ve never had a problem with my existing company saying I had to upgrade. Then again, a cell only lasts a few years before you drop it one too many times.
I’d think that no company would want to tick off it’s customers by doing switching systems so it’s customers phones didn’t work....they’d just take their phone and find another cell company. But that sort of “the customer is always to be screwed” business model seems to work for the banks, so who knows?
How does Repuvlic Wireless works when you are moving? If you are connected to wifi, will the connection drop as you move about, like driving?
