Larry Sabato

Posted on 10/30/2012 11:27:34 AM PDT by 7thson

What is the general opinion of Larry sabato? He was just on M Kelly's program saying his data does not show Romney momentum.

That’s funny because that is the exact OPPOSITE of what Rasmussen and Gallop have been saying..looks like Sabato is using up his BS meter to make up for the fact that Obama is losing BADLY

My read on Sabato is he’s a fair guy. But his analysis is tainted by the fact that he consumes mostly MSM skewed viewpoints. If you accept all the D+ sample shifted polls from the MSM, then his point of view makes sense. If you look at unskewed polls, it does not. And that is outside of his world view.

Sabato is fair, but definitely looks through a leftward prism.

No reasonable person could not see significant Mitt momentum. He took the lead in most every swing state, with Ohio lagging. blue states were tightening, red states slipping away. The only question in the last two weeks was whether the move to Romney was enough to get Ohio over or a combination of other states like IA, CA, NH, and WI so OH didn’t matter.

Usually he’s a straight shooter but he’s been a little puzzling this year, and by puzzling I mean made comments more appropriate for MSM water boys than one who professes to be “neutral.”

Back in Sep he was among the “the election is all-but over.” Also said the debates won’t matter at all. Not sure how a professor of politics says that when they do sometimes matter a great deal... JFK-Nixon, Ford-Carter, Carter-Reagan, Bush-Gore.

Then the Gallup poll came out weeks ago that was D+++ showing Romney up and he totally dissed it in a tweet saying essentially Gallup has been the gold standard in the past but no more.

So I don’t know what data he has that everyone else is missing b/c real life + polls to confirm sure seems like Mittmentum to me.

Sabato might well be a recent convert to the implications of the PEW report that revealed these pollsters are in such bad shape now due to Caller ID ~ and social change ~ that they run on a 9% or less response rate.

The first implication is that almost all the polls can be easily subverted by otherwise small groups who all, as a practice, respond to any polls they encounter.

For example the GBLT, feminazi and pro-abortion crowd could easily do this and shift every poll to their candidates and positions.

We will need to find some other way of gauging public sentiment than polling now that nobody has to answer the phone anymore!

He comes across as “fair and balanced”, but in the end, he is a wishy-washy employee of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Too close to DC, and too long in academia to be trusted. A country club moderate at best.

for those of us working down ticket, i find that he seems unbiased enough to consult (seems to follow a quasi-historical analysis). but, like all poll pundits, he’s just another data point. for example, he seems to have a much better feeling for walsh and schilling’s races in IL then the other “pundits.” that’s probably because he’s more knowledgeable about us tea partiers then most of them.

go joe walsh (walshforcongress.com). go bobby schilling, too (reelectbobby.com).

polls are a crap shoot anyway IMO and its like the weather....predict it one way and you're going to be right sometimes...

several polls that say the same thing however might add up to something...

just remember that the bammey media has had us in a choke hold with "the election is over" and "no, Romney's keeping it close" and "there's no Mitt-mentum"...

we can't win no matter what...

if you haven't donated, do so on line today...if you can volunteer, go for it...and please, please vote and get your mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers, children, church friends, etc to vote too..

Judging by Rasmussen, the momentum has flattened and nothing is moving in 5 point gains over a few days as before. 2 points nationally is margin of error for both candidates. The battleground states are tied essentially, and polling is down for the storm and funky this close to Tuesday.

Mitt wins, if corruption and fraud plans don’t pull even. He has to win by enough to overcome the mafia count too.

Show me how he’s wrong? This is non-stop around here. Romney is not leading outside the MOE in any poll other than Gallup nationally or battleground states.

The hard stuff is going to be flowing on FR the morning after when Obama pulls it out.

As a long time Virginian I have come to view Sabato and his ‘political studies center’ as the political arm of the University of Virginia. Seeing that his group is embedded in the University I realize that he is dependent upon it. UVA, as all of academia, gravitates to the Left; hence Saboto does not wander far from the Plantation of Conventional Wisdom.

Romney is likely being under counted where he is in the MoE. There is a quiet revolution going on and even the revolution is showing itself in that margin of error. I wouldn’t be entirely surprised if it is a landslide, and it will be if he jacks up those Must Win states.

Much is invested in an Obama win, thus the corrupt media think may even be inside some or all of the polling.

Sabato is a strong partisan but always pretends to not be partisan. He showed his true partisan stripes by calling Allen a racist by stuff he claimed he heard in college while he was there with Allen. This guy is a fraud. Why Fox gives him time is beyond me.

I was a student of his years ago. As a college kid, he was admittedly a leftie but he moderated in adulthood [my observation]. Like anyone, he may be occasionally wrong but whatever public assessment he gives, he believes based on his own analysis. I don’t think he has an agenda outside of promoting his Center for Politics.

I just don't see it !
I don't see any enthusiasm for Zero.
At this time last year I had some nitwit knocking on my door every day asking me to vote for Zero.
Also I see maybe 6+ Romney signs in people's yard for every Zero. I can only really find one when I walk the dog, there are likely others but I am NOT going to scour the neighborhood for them. (The point is they are hard to find!)
This is a Northern VA neighborhood, probably a bit left of center. There were NO McCain signs in my neighborhood in 2008!
So visible measurable enthusiasm for Romney, and maybe as much enthusiasm for Zero here as there was in 2008 for McCain.

I don't think my local experience is a pathological example. I think this is true in a lot of places!

I can not believe Fix has let this certified fraud back on tn air !

In 2004 , Larry went around stating that W Bush can not be re elected based on his may approval rating !
Then he trashed Bush non stop until Nov !

In 2006 , Saboto was CAUGht hiding that he was working for Webb while running around doing all the cable and radio shows trashing Senator Allen .
He spread the Macca phony scandal until he was outed as a Webb operative !

A liar and fraud and Dem party scum.

It’s amazing to me how you Obama trolls continue to drink the Koolaid! Obama certainly has some fanatics working for him.

It amazes me that just because a person is a skeptic about the likelihood of latter day faux conservative candidate to win the election who, before his nomination, couldn't generate enough electoral enthusiasm among true conservatives to warm a small teacup is suddenly Obama troll.

An Obama troll that has been clever enough to fool the administer of this board yet enough energy to keep posing since 2000.

Color me an skeptic....errr...of being a Obama troll as well because I don't think Romney was the best candiate with the better conservative record. The one I wanted didn't run and Mitt is the GOP-e candiate we are stuck with. I voted for him and will defend him against Obama to anyone. But don't expect me to blindly believe he's the second coming of Ronald Reagan.

Sorry but your post says more about you than it does about paul544

And it isn't flattering....

Right but technically momentum, be it politics or sports, stops when the opponent finally scores after a long dry spell. I agree Mitt is peaking NATIONALLY but he’s maintaining that peak while Obama has failed to gain any ground since Debate #1.

More importantly though, Obama continues to lose ground in previously “solid” states (MN for example) and Romney is gaining in the toss ups like OH. Also the fact PA is now in play is further evidence Mittmentum has not subsided.

So again, I don’t know what Sabato sees that is so different from what we all see including Michael Barone.
