VIDEO UPDATE EXCLUSIVE: Dog Shot By Omaha Police Officer
WOWT (Channel 6 News) ^ | October 29, 2012 | Mike McKnight

An Omaha police officer shot and killed a dog on a public sidewalk. The officer’s report claims the shooting was justified; however, the owners call the incident an execution of a friendly, family pet. Mike McKnight obtained surveillance video of the incident for a Fact Finders exclusive.

On October 7th, after midnight, police blocked a street in the area of 35th and Vinton to look for an armed suspect. They say Chris Schulte, who lives in the area, ignored orders to stop and walked the family dog toward the search area. He was arrested and his dog, Teela, shot.

Chris Schulte said, “You know I should have got back but I was just walking on. Not threatening, dog wasn't being aggressive.”

In the report by Officer Schuster and Officer Clement, the officers said “suspect’s dog became aggressive, growled at officers, and showed its teeth before being shot and killed.”

Tim Wagner told Channel 6 News he watched the incident, live, from inside his home via a night vision security camera.

Wagner said, “The dog didn't stand a chance. The dog did nothing aggressive. I've lived next to this dog two and a half years and it’s one of the best dogs.”

Fact Finders checked with the Nebraska Humane Society. Teela, a Labrador, golden retriever mix, had a clean record with no history of bites or vicious behavior. Schulte says Teela belonged to his aunt, Michelle Meadows.

Meadows said, “It was very shocking. I would think they would maybe taser her or something, if they thought she was being aggressive, but I don't think she was.”

The police report described Schulte as intoxicated. He was arrested, at the scene, for obstructing police and resisting arrest. He claims Teela, who was still on a leash, didn’t threaten to attack officers before one of them shot her.

“They didn't have to shoot em. Not at all. (It was an) Execution,” said Schulte.

Fact Finders showed the video to Omaha police command staff, whom provided a response. Lt. Darci Tierney said, “The Omaha Police Department is aware of the incident and Chief Schmaderer has authorized an Internal Investigation into the matter. As with all personnel matters, the Omaha Police Department is unable to comment further. Per OPD policy, anytime an officer discharges his/her firearm during the course of their duties an arduous review of the discharge will take place.”

Channel 6 News did pay for the rights to air the video.

Reporter: The sentence should have been written "Omaha Police Officer Shoots Dog". One does not use passive sentences as headlines simply because a government employee is the subject of said headline.

I wish I had seen our local “news report” on the plethora of dog shootings in Georgia and the reasons proffered for it by the idiot “talking heads”.

Personally, I put it on the same level as the TSA feeling up people: it nothing more than psychological warfare against those they wish to enslave; they wish to PUSH a citizen to do something for revenge so that they can make an “example” of you, and show you who’s boss.

What do you expect from a f*cking moslem HOMOPOTUS and all the pervs he surrounds himself/herself with?

typical police state tactics - In a sane world, any officer needlessly shooting a loved family pet should lose his job and serve years in jail.

You’ll note the young man and dog were walking away from the officers when they attacked him, and shot his dog to death.

Chicken shit and twisted doesn’t begin to describe this behavior.

This is what you’d expect in a murdering war zone where compassion, common sense and life have little value.

Okay take a breathe everybody. I’m a local. This dog is dead because his drunk surly owner was a moron. It was at night, the police were searching for an armed assault perp on that block in a really crappy neighborhood and this fool with the dog ignored repeated orders to stop as he approached the officers. If he obeys a reasonable order turns around takes his dog home and calls it a night he has a good dog to greet in the morning and he is not in jail. If you watch the video the Darwin Award candidate should be dead and the dog is looking for a brighter owner (my choice) Freeps you gotta pick your fights based on what you know not what you think

You haven't a clue.

Watch the video, the young man and dog were walking away from the LEO's. They were no threat at all. These cops were looking for trouble and the video clearly depicts this.

Funny how some of these people here pop off as if they are some kind of authority, when the video screams, “No threat to LEO’s”.

They so busy looking for some suspect, yet take the time to attack these two, opening up in a neighborhood full of people, as the young man and his dog are clearly walking AWAY from them.

You may need to work on visual perception. Withoug even trying too hard, I could instantly see the guy walking AWAY from the cops. If they said he was walking toward them without stopping, they are lying, no surprise.

Then, the CS cop ambushes the guy from behind without warning. What a Rambo. The pup may well have said this is BS and tried to defend his master.

It is nice the FR has a few less badge-lickers than it used to.

I keep waiting to hear about the enraged dog owner who takes the gun from the “officer” and beats him to death with it. It is going to happen some day. And it will make my day. These out-of-control armed thugs need a citizen sponsored wake up call...

I am past my middle 50’s and until these last few years I had not ever heard of a Police Officer shooting any Dog unless it was Rabid. Now it seems that it’s automatic.

Are these folks dispatched to any location (wrong or right location) with orders to “Shoot the Dog” or do they just take it upon themselves?

What next Cats? (You Honor, the Cat rubbed on my leg and I feared for my life)

I think Police Departments recruit from Gangs (maybe because they relate to them better)

Yea, u r right on that. back when i was young, Andy Griffith was a “peace officer”. Now we have “law enforcement officers” dedicated to attempt to arrest anyone on the slightest infraction to get an arrest, to prove that they have no manhood.

I got stopped by the finest for daring to ride my bicycle a few years back (had lights on it) in the middle of the night coming home from work. the excuse was that there were burglaries in the area!

I didn’t have a tv or stereo hanging off the back of the cycle, but was pulled over by rogue cops for no other reason, except they had nothing else better to do. amazed that they didn’t shoot me.

dog shootings are common. gives them a chance to use their gun.

blessings, bobo

That seems to be the response they are seeking.

Then they will say “See? See? We *need* to shoot chihuahuas/carry riot shields/use teargas for our own protection.
