My small dogs bark at everything outside. I hope they would alert to an intruder.

I have a 10lb maltepoo and his 4 lb daughter. Both would raise hell, but both like people too much and would probably be carried out. My boy MIGHT bite, but how much damage would he do?

Without even watching, I bet I know the answer.

Have two shelties here . . . I’d think they’d bark their heads off . . . like they do for the quarterly bug man, and others who enter our home or descend upon our front steps. They serve as my alarm . . . then I’ll grab my gun.

Are they bringing bacon as an offering? Venison? Smoked Squirrel? Stewed woodchuck?

If the intruder were quiet, then my Goldendoodle wouldn’t wake up. If he did, then the intruder better be ready to deal with some serious licking!

Could the experiment be flawed if the burglar does not exhibit anxiety or hate while committing the crime? Don’t dogs pick up on the demeanor of a person to determine if they pose a threat and react accordingly?

My parents had this old mutt for around 15 years. He was half German Shepherd and half mutt. He was the most easy going dog I have ever seen.

I can remember my two year old daughter ordering him around and he immediately cowered with his head between his paws. I can remember some of my nieces and nephews playing with him and he would let them literally cover his coat with spanish moss without even shaking it off until they went away.

One day two of my Mother’s Sisters stopped by to visit but my parents happened to be gone. One of them needed to use the bathroom so they went to the front door.

They later told Mother that the dog got between them and the door and absolutely would not let them approach it. He growled and barked and generally acted vicious.

That really surprised all of us.

They originally did this study with assistance by the local police department. Unfortunately, the dogs’ reactions were not measurable — the cops shot the dogs as soon as they entered.

My Springer would bark her head off while they are outside and want to curl up in their arms when they made it inside. Watch dog, not a guard dog.

More worried about how a damn cop intruder would react. They shoot all furry moving things.

The German Shepherd was a total coward.I have a German Shepherd that I would like to loan them if they want to rerun the test. The intruder might want to look for a helmet with face shield before meeting Hannah.

In his latter years, my Dad had a big, tough looking German Shepard. I thought somewould would have to be crazy to break in with that thing around. And one day, in the middle of the night, someone did.

The dog did absolutely nothing.

My dog definitely reacted to Kevlar’s barking (the German Shepherd). Unfortunately, I think he would react to an intruder the same way Kevlar did. “Can I help you carry anything out? Got any treats?”

When my neighbor goes away from town we walk her dog for her. She gives us the key to her place so we can fetch him. If we let ourselves in we have to hunt all over the house until we find him, usually sleeping on a bed. Now we ring the bell and he comes running down barking up a storm. So if the burglar was quiet the dog would be pretty much worthless.

My little Maltese barks at anything. We’ve changed her name from Clio to Doorbell. My Siberian Husky (mostly an outside dog) looks like a wolf and growls at every stranger that nears our door. She has never attacked anyone, but I think she would if provoked. Between the two of them, I feel protected.
