LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A reputed gang member Tuesday pleaded not guilty to murder and other charges in connection to the Nov. 4 fatal shooting of a man who tried to stop the suspect from tagging a church in the Westlake district of Los Angeles.
Janeth Lopez, 22, was also charged with two counts of attempted murder and a misdemeanor count of vandalism for the incident at Iglesia de Paz church in the 3000 block of West Beverly Boulevard.
Police said Andres Ordonez, 25, and another man attempted to stop Lopez from spray-painting graffiti on the church building when a male gunman got out of a car from across the street and shot at them.
Lopez reportedly jumped inside the shooter’s car, and they both fled the area.
Ordonez died at the scene. He left behind a pregnant wife and a 1-year-old son.
A second victim was injured. A third man was fired at, but wasn’t struck by gunfire.
Last week, the Los Angeles City Council approved a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspected gunman.
Lopez remains jailed on $2.5 million bail.
She will return to court Dec. 4

Dang, I pass that place every day. I’m pretty sure that’s the building that used to be owned by some company called California Nuts, and you can still see where the lettering was, so I always have a chuckle as I go by. It doesn’t look like a church, but it is. I had no idea someone was just shot there. That’s so sad. They are destroying their own neighborhoods with the vandalism and litter and gangs. Fools.
