Notre Dame and Alabama rise after a night of BCS chaos

Coming into Saturday, Oregon and Kansas State had the inside track to college football’s national championship and the Southeastern Conference’s run of six straight BCS titles was in jeopardy.

Then No. 2 K-State got thumped 52-24 by unranked Baylor and top-ranked Oregon fell in overtime to No. 14 Stanford, 17-14.

Now the SEC is alive and well.

And how’s this for a possible national title game: Alabama vs. Notre Dame.

Well, it might be that Oregon has ZERO top ten wins this year, compared to Alabama’s TWO top ten wins...could be.

Georgia also has two top ten wins. LSU has one, Florida has one. Again, Oregon has none.

BTW, the movement in the polls you mention (Alabama up, Oregon down) are only projections, made by sportswriters (the official BCS rankings come out Monday)...using computers. Nothing released yet reflects human voting. Its all numbers right now, and the UNIVAC spits out a large Oregon drop....no human factor at all. Zip. Nada. (although it will likely mimic the computers).

If scheduling the ‘powder puffs’ late is such a winning strategy, the other conferences could certainly follow suit...oddly, I doubt they will though.

Been a dawg fan a long time. Watched the 1980 championship game. I think Richt is a damn good man...and a damn good recruiter. But...IMHO he has two major, deal killing flaws that have kept him from winning a championship.

1. He relies too much on recruiting the skill positions and not the lines...on both sides of the ball. Football is won and lost on the LOS..period.

2. He runs a program that lacks discipline and execution. Throughout his tenure his teams have committed dumb 15 yard penalties, while at the same time missed blocks, tackles, run gaps, coverages, and other assignments.

Bama, on the other hand, does not. Ever.

Richt has produced some NFL talent, but no championships. While I’m hoping for the best, I believe he won’t.

Too bad sanctions due the the rampant cheating and lying of OSU are preventing your suckeyes from going to and losing yet another BCS bowl game.

I have no idea what will happen when UM plays in that toilet bowl of a stadium but I am sure that many of your fellow Nuts will have fun filling up coolers with urine and feces!

You have serious issues. Please seek help. It is a game.

But to your point. We had some players do stupid stuff by trading their stuff for tattoos. A violation yes. How that is “cheating”.in the sense of giving them an advantage? I don’t see it.

Tressel covering it up, that is a big one, and they got whacked for it.

Now UM holding illegal practices under RichRod, that is cheating.

Go Bucks!

“Would you care to elaborate on your claim?”

I don’t know if Sporke has responded but I shall:

When that lowlife was still coaching the Miami Dolphins then for three days all we heard from his lips was, “I’m not going to Alabama. I’m not going to Alabama. I’m not going to Alabama”. Then on the fourth day we heard, “OOPS! I’m going to Alabama”.

So that we already know that he is a bold/bald-faced liar just to start the conversation.

It sucks...ND is not qualified to share a championship game with Alabama.

ND’s schedule is particularly weak...they have to give serious preparation to no more than 3 or 4 games, the other opponents are patsy’s.

Pray that SoCal beats the $hit out of ND.

TX A&M beat #2 and lost to # 4 & 5 by total of 8 points.

.ND is not qualified to share a championship game with Alabama.

Alabama lost to No. 14 Texas A&M. Oregon lost to No. 14 Stanford. Alabama is no better than any other one loss team.

LOL, but you have to imagine what that sounded like if you were an Alabama fan. It sounded sweet to us :) I actually though we were crazy for paying him so much, but in reality I guess it turned out to be a bargain.

First of all, I don’t mean this personally, but...the whole “THE Ohio State University” is by far the dumbest thing in all of college athletics.

It might have been clever when first thought up, but they should have let that die a decade ago. “THE Ohio State University = Where’s the beef”.

Unless you can point out references to that remark, I will assume you have been greatly misinformed.

+1

Alabama football has the second highest graduation rate in the country, behind Stanford. Sporke likely has an agenda that he/she is not sharing...

ND’s schedule is particularly weak

Jeff Sagarin ranks Alabama's SOS at 30. Notre Dame is 33.

How about 1966 when ND and Michigan tied and undefeated Alabama still didn’t win the national championship?

I already posted why I dislike Saban. As for an agenda, I don’t have one. I don’t even follow college football until it matters. My favorite team is Texas A&M, and only because I got to see them in a bowl game last season and fell in like with their band, and fans.

Saban may be a “great” coach, but he has no honor. As a leader of young men, I would rather have a man of honor than a great coach.

I may be in the minority in what I would want in a coach, but to me, the ends do not justify the means.

Got it. You dislike Saban because he left your beloved Dolphins to coach at Alabama. I guess I should start trashing Vice Lombardi because he left my beloved Packers and went to the Redskins.

I could care less about the Dolphins. I’m a Cowboys fan (don’t get me started).

It’s not that he left, but HOW he left. He QUIT on his team while telling them he was staying.

Florida has two as well (LSU and A&M), and if they beat FSU, that would make three.
