I am looking for an AK47. The Russian AK’s are gone or the price is beyond my budget. What is in-line as the next in quality AK, by country of manufacture?

yeah...but gotta use US mags at that price. Worth the cost of admission just playing barrel pin roulette in the house. Those puppies break with an awful noise. :)

Gee, a business with a disgruntled customer.

Never seen that before.

Romanian SAR1 or SAR2 are the best quality stamped receiver AKs, IMO. Stay away from Chinese (Norinco)

Actually, Norinco Mak 90s are quite good, particularly the milled ones, but none have been imported for years.

Interesting thread -- (Caveat emptor: Maybe the only reason I find the thread interesting is because I know nothing about AK-47s!!)

I recently bought a Hungarian AMD-65 from Bud's.

Nice little side-folder AK variant that runs like a sewing machine.

It's also currently the cheapest AK on the market at $469.00 shipped from Bud's.

Milled receivers are always going to be superior to stamped, but since this FReeper was looking for advice on cheaper AKs, Romanian stamped is the way to go. Maadis also aren't terrible, but I've had some trigger groups that didn't fit quite right in them.

I had an AK receiver milled for a custom auto job I did a while back, and that thing was indestructible. I had the tolerances dialed up real tight, and the damn thing gobbled up 550 rds of ammo without flinching. It sold for over $1200, though.

I bought one of those too a couple of years ago. I really like it and have never had any problems out of it. It is very loud and the muzzle brake makes it hard on shooters next to you at the range. Everybody that shoots it really likes it.
