Ed Asner Invents Novel Fundraising Idea Using Celebrity Voices

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The group “Autism Speaks” has asked celebrities to take part in a unique fund-raising effort.

Fans can get Hollywood elite (like Tom Hanks, Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell, Betty White) to record custom messages for them.

For $299, the celebrity records the message and Autism Speaks delivers a digital file of the celebrity speaking the fan’s message. One catch. The message has to be PG.

The proceeds benefit Autism Speaks.

The idea is the brainchild of actor Ed Asner of “Mary Tyler Moore” and “Lou Grant” fame. His son Matt works for Autism Speaks.

Other stars taking part include Yankee Derek Jeter, Carrie Fisher, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart and William Shatner.

The fundraiser is expected to go from Dec. 3 – 9.

Do you suppose Red Ed would balk at recording a patriotic greeting?

I’ll do it for $29. I’ll record a message for ten bucks.

I’d pay for Nimoy to say “Voting for Obama was highly illogical.”

I know Asner is a lefty nut, but this is a very good idea and the cause is also worthy.

For all I know this “worthy cause” spends 75% of its revenue on “outreach” and lobbying like Susan G Komen does.

Good idea, but it is stolen from the the episode of Two and a Half Men with James Earl Jones on it (and they probably stole it from someone else).

Why don't these socialist celebrities just donate their own wealth to the greater good. You know spread the wealth around. Just like ObaMao says to do.

I have a personal dislike for Ed Asner’s Leftist positions, but this is a very good idea and and a very good cause. It would make a great gift for a friend who has everything.

Well, Ashner is on record of raising money for the Communist terrorists who murdered 4 off duty American embassy Marines and 2 US civilians and 6 others, in the Zona Rosa Massacre in El Salvador in 1985.

Some of the aid Ashner raised went directly to the group that murdered Americans at Zona Rosa

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1985_Zona_Rosa_attacks

Asner took part in a fundraiser to send medical aid to El Salvadoran communist guerrillas who were fighting against the Reagan-backed government in that country, and he lent his name to a rebel-supporting direct-mail piece.

The man should be in jail.

Flew back from Hawaii on Christmas day in the late Seventies. 5 people on the plane, my family, and Asner. He came down, looking for some adoration, I guess. My Father, God rest him, ignored asner’s very existence. I headed back to play with the stewardesses.

I agree with you. It would be better to donate directly to the organization, if someone was so inclined. I wouldn’t get involved in anything this dirtbag is involved in.

Any organization the leftists support is suspect.

Susan G Komen is not worth spit, for instance

Ed Asner is an admitted communist. Why in the world is he not intellectually honest enough to make the connection between what he supports politically, and the manipulations of people who are not “in the box” and approved by government. Such are the people who have learning differences called autism.

Does he have brain damage?

Big jerk.

Hollyweirdos! Yeah, that’s why I’d want to donate. Geesh! The people in this country really need to get over their problem with idol worship.

Why don’t these celebrity a..holes just donate millions of dollars to the “worthwhile” charities instead of giving a few hours of their overrated talent. When I hear these celebrities talking up these charities but giving “no money”, only their overvalued services (which they will overvalue and deduct from their taxes), I know the scam is on.
