Two reputed gang members were shot this afternoon at a funeral for a man who was slain on the South Side last week, with a minister at the services tweeting afterward, "This is Crazy."
The two men were shot outside St. Columbanus Church in the 300 block of East 71st Street shortly before 12:30 p.m., across the street from the A.A. Rayner & Sons Funeral Home, police said.
They were taken in critical condition to Stroger, according to Chicago Fire Department spokesman Will Knight. Both victims are convicted felons and known gang members, police said. Two guns were recovered at the scene.
The shooting occurred after the funeral for James Holman, 32, who was gunned down last week at an apartment building in the Washington Park neighborhood, according to police and the minister who was presiding, the Rev. Corey Brooks.
"I just preached a funeral and gunfire has broke out," Brooks tweeted. "Chaos about 500 people here. This is Crazy!!
"Please pray for Chicago," he added in a later tweet. "This is horrible."

Prayer didn’t help Sodom and Gomorrah either.
I parts of South America, when crime got too obnoxious, there was something of a tradition of business owners and shopkeepers creating a fund that was used to hire tough guys, off duty police, former military, etc.
Their job was to round up, then dispose of criminals, no questions asked. Typically they would take them out to some rural place, execute them, then bury them.
Importantly, this technique was statistically effective, because such criminals are oriented to their turf, so when some were eliminated from a particular area, it was a long time before they were replaced.
This meant that the exterminators did not make a heavy footprint in a typical neighborhood before moving on, so were usually able to take down large numbers of criminals before their activities were even detected, much less stopping them.
And since some off duty policemen were involved, if there were police suspicions, then they would find out about it, and cool it for a while to let things settle down.
Practically speaking, there is no reason that this couldn’t work in a place like Chicago, where there are so many homicides that nobody would care much about disappearances.

Honestly, I don’t like that system. Not at all. Here in America we expect our leaders and our police to be people of integrity. I know this is Chicago we’re talking about, but still....
Here in America we let the different tribes kill each other off. No one thinks twice when one of them kills another one of them.
The pastor is mulling a run for Jesse Jackson Jr.’s seat. Prayer is not going to solve this problem. More gun laws are not going to solve this problem. It is highly likely the shooters were friends of the original deceased and the shooting victims associated with his death. It is a cycle of violence that tearing down motels and erecting community centers is not going to solve.
Sodom and Gomorrah wasn’t asking for prayer. Lot and his wife were told to leave because God was going to destroy those cities. They didn’t want prayer - they wanted to continue in their perverted sins.
This pastor asking for prayer doesn’t equate Sodom and Gomorrah.
I agree, lacking any knowledge about this man, it would indeed be prejudicial to demean him. On the other hand, Mayor Rahm Emanuel of Chicago for two years now, has just trumpeted "The Chicago Way" as a model for the rest of America to follow!
On him, much opprobrium would I heap.
For the taxpayer, funerals are a lot cheaper than prison.

well, let's look at the possibilities. #1 a contribution can at the funeral home was overflowing with contributions
#2 the guys both had large life insurance policies which not only paid their expense, but left their families with future security because their drug income would cease.
#3 you and I will have money taken out our checks to bury this trash.
#4 my proposal would to be to drop these pieces of trash into a neighborhood dumpster (at night of course so as to avoid the illegal dumping of garbage fine) and avoid any further responsibility for this human vermin.
And I agree with this. I’m sure there are some solid Christians in Chicago, but I’m also sure they are in a minority. The Chicago Way rules!

Most of the posters here are sick and tired of hearing about what a cesspool Shitcago is when these people do nothing but double down on stupid when addressing the problems.
And time after time these "Pastors" and "Reverends" ask fr people to "pray for Chicago." Grabbing there 15 minutes and 100,000 youtube hits.
Well, cafeteria choose your own adventure Christianity isn't going to solve anything. How about rebuking your congregation of gang bangers and pointing out their actions and their criminal behavior is what caused these deaths.
It isn't some imaginary faceless "they" it is the eyes staring back at these supposed men of the cloth. Pray for Chicago? I pray these men of the cloth would grow some testicles and tell these bangers of their eternity in hell waiting. About how Jamal, Gerome, or whatever's body lying in that casket and his evil gang banger's soul is probably burning in hellfire.
Pray for Chicago? Pray for those supposed men of the cloth that provide tacit cover for these criminals. Pray they will one day find the courage to speak the truth.

My Grandfather was a bootlegger and philanderer. His 9 sons and daughters are all Christians. His acquaintances never shot up any funerals. Course he wasn’t Amish...
