Gawd, look at that beautiful photograph. I can tell you how they did it, too.
4” x 5” camera (guessing a Speed Graphic), large tripod (probably wooden), relatively open aperture to create the narrow depth of field (blurred background), b&w negative film (can’t tell the type), metered to heck and back, and still bracketed repeated exposures to get this one.
Wow. I just love old film.
I read a late-in-life interview of Virginia Mayo. She sounded pretty conservative.
Fine grained film for the era, relatively wide dynamic range, lots of fill lights to create just the right highlights. This is one highly coordinated and processed set-shot. Wow.
