A northeast Ohio man caught on video apparently making fun of a young girl with cerebral palsy has been sentenced to a month in jail.
William Bailey, 43, was sentenced to the maximum sentence after pleading no contest Tuesday to reduced misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and aggravated menacing, court officials said.
Bailey was caught on cellphone video at a school bus stop making fun of how the 10-year-old disabled girl walks. The video was then widely disseminated on the Internet and local TV news, the (Canton) Repository reported

WOW! Mental assault. We can use this in so many ways!
-Ban any religous activity outside of a windowless church.
-Ban the sale of guns in retail stores.
-Ban homeschooling to ensure no mental assault is going on
-Ban talk about the founding fathers
-Ban any conservative discussions
-Ban TeaParty demonstrations

Funny how all you folks are so worried about this setting a precedent. How many here would have stepped in to stop it?
While you’re willing to overlook child abuse because the govt could abuse its power you ignore the power the govt already has.
The cops can shoot your dog with no questions asked. Heck they can shoot you with very little chance of any penalty. They can take your money, car, house, boat whatever they want and just claim its related to drugs. They can do warrantless searches of your phone, email, and your person. They can prohibit you from traveling by air without a reason or opportunity to challenge. They can arrest you for protesting the President, access your bank accounts, monitor you 24 hours a day.
Where’s the outrage for that stuff while you excuse this guy abusing a disabled 10 yr old child.
Oh, good grief. Gross exaggeration is not a game, it’s fool’s play. This was a ten year old child being totally harassed and humiliated by a grown idiot. I didn’t say to throw him in jail. He deserved worse.
It was flat out abuse...and someone should have smacked him upside his head. Hard.

He wasn't jailed for making fun of the girl. He was jailed for threatening the girl's mother who happens to be his neighbor.

Aren’t you quite the work of art, leaping to conclude I wish to abuse disabled kids. I bet everytime something happens that you dislike you are the first person jumping up screaming “there oughta be a law”, while publicly decrying the near police state you live in in posts like this. If you want to whine about a large litany of complaints and wonder who made it so bad, go look in a mirror.

We have a country half full of fools and the school system is producing more every year. No exaggeration is out of the reach of mastermind utopians. I fear that even my fellow FReepers are handing them tools....

OK, then I offer my apology for lumping you in with the other supporters of criminal charges in this case. I agree that in a free society, it would be handled by his fellow citizens.
